Westland Jaycees Veterans 5K -  One way to support our veterans is by joining in the Veterans Day 5K on Saturday, November 7.  The Westland Jaycees are sponsoring this event that will start at 9:00 a.m. at Central City Park.  Runners will share the course with military units running and chanting in cadence.  The event is open to both runners and walkers and all money raised will go to help out local veterans.  You can register for the inaugural Veterans Day 5K atwww.westlandareajaycees.org
 
May the Force of Giving be With You - The much anticipated new Star Wars film "The Force Awakens" opens next month, but you can get your Star Wars fix much earlier than that.  The Westland Mall will be welcoming characters from the Great Lakes Garrison, 501st Legion on  Saturday, November 7 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  There will be plenty of stormtroopers, droids, maybe even a Darth Vader sighting.  It's all part of a fundraising event presented by Parkside Credit Union.  You will have the opportunity to take photos with costumed characters as they accept donations to support our Michigan Troops.  You can learn more by visiting the Mall website at  www.westlandcenter.com

Monday Madness at the Westland Municipal Golf Course -   Golf lovers, d on't miss out on a great deal every Monday from noon - 5 p.m. at the Westland Municipal Golf Course, located at 500 S. Mornings with the Mayor -  Westland Mayor William R. Wild cordially invites you to his monthly "Mornings with the Mayor."  Join Mayor Wild over a cup of coffee from 9 - 10 a.m. on Tuesday, November 10 at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.    This is your opportunity to bring up matters of importance to you regarding City services or programs and events.  These monthly meetings have been a hit with residents offering a number of ideas to improve services, some which are being considered.  In honor of Small Business Saturday and the upcoming holiday season, the Mayor will be raffling off four $25 gift cards to local business, Westland Car Care.  All you need to do to be entered into the raffle is come to the "Mornings with the Mayor" event on  November 10  and bring a non-perishable food item, unwrapped toy, or small monetary donation for the Westland Goodfellows.  Your entry into the raffle is your donation.  The City of Westland will be accepting donations for the Westland Goodfellows all holiday season.  Donation boxes will be in the lobby.   Coffee and water are provided during this one hour event.  Together, let's make Westland all it can be. 

Veterans Day Ceremony (City Offices Closed) - The Westland Veterans Association proudly announces their Veterans Day Ceremony will be held at the "Veterans Memorial Garden of Westland". The Ceremony will begin at 2:00 P.M., Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11. The memorial garden is behind the Westland Public Library, located at 6123 Central City Parkway. This year's ceremony will feature remarks from Mayor William R. Wild, Marine Veteran State Senator David Knezek and a Vietnam Veteran Purple Heart recipient guest speaker.  There will also be a rose ceremony recognizing the 50th anniversary of The Vietnam War.  All city offices will be closed, including the 18th District Court.  Trash and recycling pick up will not be affected.

All American Winter Market - The All American Winter Market will be returning to the Farmer's Market Pavilion on Thursday, November 12.  Stop by the Marketplace Pavilion in Central City Park  from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. to check out some great locally produced hand made goods.  Some of your favorite vendors from the popular Farmers Market in the summer, are returning as well as a few new faces.  The Indoor Winter Market will showcase local artisans who will be displaying jewelry and also selling delicious home made goods.  This is a great place to start your holiday shopping!  The Indoor Winter Market will take place on November 12th and again on December 10th in Central City Park.

  
Friday Night Glow Skate -  The Mike Modano Ice Arena has re-opened for the season and Friday Night Glow Skate is back.  Glow skate will run every Friday from 7 p.m. to 9:20 p.m. and will cost $8 for kids and $9 for adults for residents.  The cost is 50 cents more for non-resident.  One glow in the dark accessory will be given will the purchase of admittance to glow skate.  The Ice Arena is located at 6210 Wildwood.
