Sept. 9 deadline
to sign up for the
practice SAT/ACT

The deadline to sign up for the Practice SAT/ACT Test is Sept. 9.  The cost is $10. Students must sign up with Mrs. Ingui in the Career Center.

The test will be held Saturday, Sept. 12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The practice test is designed to help students decide whether they need to take a prep course before taking the real SAT or ACT, and will also help them decide which of the two tests might be better for their test-taking style.

Students should arrive by 8:40 a.m. to check in. They need to bring two #2 pencils and an approved calculator (TI-83 or 84 are approved along with scientific calculators; TI-89 are not approved). The test will begin promptly at 9:00.

With the Practice SAT/ACT, scores are NOT sent to the College Board. Students alone receive the scores.

U.S. Rep. Lynn Westmoreland spoke to two sessions of primarily Social Studies classes about his experiences in government. CHS Senior Leigh Anne Turner asked to have a picture made with the congressman following one of his talks.
Westmoreland
shares  experiences
in state, federal
governments

Georgia's Third District Congressman Lynn Westmoreland, during a visit to Carrollton to host workshops on Veterans Affairs and Social Security, took time out of his busy schedule to visit students at Carrollton High School Aug. 27.
Michael Harvey, CHS teacher and instructional coordinator for the Social Studies Department, arranged the visit, coordinated through U.S. Rep. Westmoreland's assistant, CHS alumna Cason Hightower ('10).

"We look for ways to make government come to life. Having Congressman Westmoreland talk with students moves the idea of government from something that happens in Washington D.C. to being right on our campus," said Harvey. "We are excited and honored to have Congressman Westmoreland with us."

Two sessions, primarily featuring students from World History, Government, U.S. History and Economics classes, were held in the Joshua Mabry Center for the Arts. Westmoreland talked to the students about the importance of school, the importance of government, and how their engagement in government, whether through serving in public office or simply as a voter, can truly make a difference.

Online payments service
grows in popularity
Carrollton High School's web store has been so popular that now CHS will no longer accept checks for school payments - online or cash only is accepted.

With the online service, parents may pay with VISA, Discover or MasterCard credit or debit cards. The web store accepts payments over the Internet 24/7. By contracting with RevTrak, a national credit card payment processor, CHS provides you a secure site for making payments. Click here to access the site.
