FUNDRAISING
HIGHLIGHT

Fundraisers play a key role in supporting CHS outside the academic arena. Clubs and co-curricular activities require funding to be successful, but taxpayer dollars are reserved for academic purposes and cannot be used to support these programs. All are worthy endeavors and should be given consideration. Here, we will occasionally highlight a fundraiser to inform its purpose and how the money raised is used to support the program.

Popular cheesecake sale  supports CHS Performing Arts

The Carrollton High School Performing Arts Department is having its annual cheesecake fundraiser through Tuesday, Sept. 8.

"This has been an annual event for years and helps support the program as it produces a Broadway show each spring," said Tommy Cox, Performing Arts teacher/director.

Besides cheesecakes, the sale also includes various cakes, cookies and even pretzels. To make a purchase, contact any student in the Performing Arts Department or phone 770-834-2116.

Items will be delivered around the third week of October just in time for the holidays!

Rachel Rooks, a finalist in the national FBLA competition, poses with CHS FBLA sponsor Robby Blakemore.
Rooks named finalist
in national FBLA event

O ver the summer, Rachel Rooks represented Carrollton High School and state of Georgia at the Future Business Leaders of America national competition in Chicago, IL. She made both very proud by placing ninth in Management Information Systems.

"To make it to nationals, Rachel had to prove herself at several levels," said Robby Blakemore, CHS's FBLA sponsor and business and computer science teacher. "She placed first in the regional competition followed by second at the state level. At nationals, Rachel had to take an on online test covering MIS topics."

By placing in the Top 15, the CHS senior qualified as a finalist and had to present a case study to a panel of judges.

"Rachel did an amazing job and is looking forward to competing again at next year's national competition in Atlanta," said Mr. Blakemore.
Initiative helps  students build SAT vocabulary

Each week Carrollton High School features an SAT "Word of the Week" to help students build their vocabulary in preparation of the test.

The words chosen come from a list of the top 50 words used on the SAT. This week's word was:

transitory
(tran-zi-tohr-ee)

As used on the SAT, its meaning is: short-lived; temporary. Here it is in a sentence: My firm is looking for a few transitory workers who do not mind working for only a week or two.
