UPDATE ON NEW CARROLLTON HIGH SCHOOL
New CHS front lobby video builds excitement
Want an exciting glimpse into what the front lobby of the new Carrollton High School will look like? Click on this video rendition at right. You won't believe it.

Some of the details in the lobby may change, but that the design featured in the video gives a good indication of what to expect.

The first phase of the project, including the new front lobby featured in the video, is on track to open at the start of the 2017-2018 school year. Be looking for some construction action in the near future!

We welcome,
and  encourage,
your  feedback

Student success is attained when great parents, great teachers and a great community work in concert to create dynamic learning experiences for children.

Ensuring this partnership is working well compels us to ask you for feedback through this very simple, very quick, online survey. Your answers will be confidential and will not be shared with teachers at an individual teacher or student level.

A $500 gift certificate to the Trojan Nation Store awaits a randomly drawn winner from the parents/guardians who participate. The drawing will be on Friday, Oct. 30. Good luck!

SAT Word
of the Week

Each week Carrollton High School features an SAT "Word of the Week" to help students build their vocabulary in preparation of the test. Here's the latest:

Alleviate
(uh-lee-vee-eyt)

As used on the SAT, its meaning is: To ease a pain or a burden .   Here it is in a sentence:  Pharmaceutical companies have built a billion-dollar industry by alleviating the symptoms of the common cold.

Homecoming festivities
do not disappoint

Veronica Lee was crowned the CHS 2015 Homecoming Queen during halftime last Friday night, the culminating event of a busy week of donation collections, spirit days, pep rally, Homecoming parade and class reunions. Oh, and the Trojans defeated region rival Fayette County 30-2!

Art auction to support
Ferst Foundation

The International Baccalaureate program at Carrollton High School is organizing a charity silent art auction to be held Thursday, Nov. 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Mabry Center for the Arts on the Carrollton High School campus.

The event, called First Impression Art Auction, will feature artwork from students, teachers, organizations and professional artists throughout and around the Carrollton community.

All proceeds received from the sale will be entirely donated to the Ferst Foundation, a national organization vested in Carrollton that provides books for financially disadvantaged families in an effort to combat childhood illiteracy.

'Legacy'
competition
a huge  success

After the clouds parted, the momentum continued to grow as the Trojan Band's first year hosting a marching competition went off virtually without a hitch. Whitewater High School is the very first school to earn possession of the traveling Grand Champion trophy, the Legacy Sword Trophy, although all other bands in the competition proved to be worthy competitors for the award as well.

CHS Band Director Chris Carr said he couldn't be more pleased with the results.

"First, we want to congratulate all of the students, staff, boosters, and supporters of Whitewater High School Band for their remarkable achievements at the Legacy of Champions Marching Band Competition," said Carr. "We also would like to say a big thank you to all of the Carrollton community for your overwhelming encouragement and support. Also, thank you to the herculean efforts of our event staff and volunteers. Plans are already under way for next year's event as we look forward to continuing the legacy!"

The event featured performances by 15 local and regional bands, including exhibition performances by Valdosta State University and the University of West Georgia, both programs which performed separately and then together, a special thing to see since the two schools are huge rivals and had just performed earlier that day at an important football conference game (UWG won).

CHS Principal Dr. Mark Albertus was well pleased with the inaugural event.

"I have received a lot of positive feedback about the competition," he said. "It is a testimony to the hard work of Mr. Carr, his staff, our band and the incredible band booster club. This is just one example of our band program on the rise."

PLC CORNER
PLC students enjoy 'traditional' high school experiences
Sage Jackson, a senior and student at the PLC, plays soccer and volleyball on the girls varsity teams. Sage has received honors in both sports.

Carrollton High School hosted the Carrollton Invitational volleyball tournament on Sept. 19 and Sage took all-tournament honors for the Lady Trojans. Her coach, Eric Jay Phillips, said that Sage has stepped up this year into a leadership role on the team and has the right mentality to be a successful volleyball player.

Sage was also nominated as the Soccer Sweetheart for Homecoming this year. Congratulations, Sage, for representing the PLC and your sports well!
