SAT Word
of the Week

Each week Carrollton High School features an SAT "Word of the Week" to help students build their vocabulary in preparation of the test.

Last week's word was:

diligent
(dil-i-juh nt)

As used on the SAT, its meaning is: marked by painstaking effort;
hard-working.
Here it is in a sentence:  The cross country team runs the streets of Carrollton every afternoon and their diligent training will have a tremendous payoff during competitions.

This year's motto:

"The best way to predict the future is to create it."

Abraham Lincoln

The CHS Competitive Cheerleading Team at the Coosa High School competition.
Worth cheering about!

The Carrollton Competitive Cheerleading Team not only placed first in its division, but also accumulated the highest score overall to be named Grand Champions at the Coosa High School competition Sept. 12. The team then went on to place  first  in division competition at East Coweta Sept. 19. The team also competed last weekend at Central  High
School, garnering another first place finish, as did the CJHS and CHS JV teams. Congratulations to all on a great, promising  season!
Mining for GOLD
has never been easier!
The photo below about CHS teachers getting new Chromebooks was posted in the Gold Mine, Carrollton City Schools' new "social neighborhood" that is linked to the school  district's home page. Launched just last Thursday, already the page is full of quick snippets capturing dynamic school activity. Click the icon above to see more content, all driven by the hashtag #trojangold. Enjoy!

School district secures
teacher Chromebooks,
new technology hardware

Carrollton City Schools has announced the system has earned a $270,000 technology grant to be used for infrastructure hardware. In addition, the district, though a charter system grant, has purchased Chromebooks for all teachers. Both initiatives are intentionally focused to unlock every tool possible to customize student learning. Learn more.
FUNDRAISING HIGHLIGHT
Fundraisers play a key role in supporting CHS outside the academic arena. Clubs and co-curricular activities require funding to be successful, but taxpayer dollars are reserved for academic purposes and cannot be used to support these programs. All are worthy endeavors and should be given consideration. Here, we will occasionally highlight a fundraiser to inform its purpose and how the money raised is used to support the program.

JROTC cadets selling
Krispy Kreme doughnuts

CHS Air Force Junior ROTC cadets are pre-selling the traditional glazed Krispy Kreme doughnuts which are $6 per dozen/box and the chocolate glazed for $7.00 per dozen/box. Orders will be taken through Oct. 20 with delivery Oct. 22.

Senior JROTC instructor Major Sylvester Hendrix said the fundraiser usually generates between $1,000 to $1,500 in profit, which supports the program by offsetting the cost of the military ball, spring trip and summer leadership school.
