Relieving Sciatica Pain
Naturally
Sciatica is a common form of lower back pain that usually develops as a result of wear and tear on the spine that irritate the sciatic nerve, the longest nerve in the body. Weight gain, center of gravity shift and hormonal changes during pregnancy also tend to trigger sciatica.
Quite literally a pain in the butt, this condition tends to intensify over time, sending radiating pain down the lower back, through the buttocks and down the leg. Prolonged sitting, sudden movement, coughing or even sneezing may trigger or worsen the condition. Many men find that storing their wallets in their back pockets also trigg
ers sciatic pain.
C
hiropractic is an excellent non-drug approach to alleviate sciatica p
ain as it h
elps restore spinal
movement and improve function while decreasing pain and inflammation. Studies have shown that patients under chiropractic care felt the benefits for up to one year after therapy.
Chiropractic adjustments, ice/heat therapy and TENS stimulation are some effective modalities we use to address the underlying cause of sciatica, not just the symptoms.
Yoga poses
and daily stretches are also soothing pain relievers,
as are acupuncture treatments and massage therapy. Contact our office to learn how we can help relieve your sciatica naturally.

New Study Reveals High Fructose Diets Impede Brain Plasticity
Despite the fact that diets high in processed fructose are associated with diabetes, obesity, cancer and fatty liver disease, Americans on average consume about 8 teaspoons of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) per day -- almost 27 pounds per year!
UCLA researchers have now found that diets high in fructose also affect the brain's plasticity, or its ability to create fresh, healthy neural pathways between brain cells after injury. The news is particularly worrisome for victims of traumatic brain injury who struggle to relearn daily routines, regain gaps in memories and other cognitive function.
The study revealed that processed fructose interferes with the ability of neurons to communicate with each other, rewire connections after injury, record memories and produce enough energy to fuel basic functions. Researchers warn consumers to protect their brain health by reducing their intake of HFCS.
HFCS is pervasive; it's found it ketchup, soups, salad dressings, pasta sauce, breads and even in canned and jarred fruits and vegetables. Protect your precious asset by reading labels and avoiding products containing HFCS, especially if you are recovering from a brain injury.
Check out this infographic for hidden sources of HFCS.
