Like A Mustard Seed
Then Jesus asked, "What is the Kingdom of God like? What shall I compare it to? It is like a mustard seed that a man took and planted in his garden. It grew and became a tree, and the birds came and perched in its branches.
Luke 13:18-19

This parable is instructive for people who want the kingdom to happen right now -- they want to be holy after their first year on the journey. For the kingdom to happen, however, we have to walk the entire journey. The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed. It starts small, but it keeps growing. As time goes on, you'll sprout many branches, and you'll look out at the end of your life and say, "God has been faithful to the promise. God has made beauty out of my little life."

The ECR Concert Series

proudly presents

another delightfully tongue-in-cheek program by

The Vagabones Trombone Quintet

5 p.m. Sun July 12

at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection,

2200 Justin Lane

Donations gratefully accepted at the door; $10 suggested.

Plenty of free parking!  All ages warmly welcomed.

The Vagabones Trombone Quintet found International Orange Day to be a darn good excuse to present a program loosely associated with the color orange - including a brief foray into things Dutch, in honor of that William fellow (for whose 1630 victory the day is actually named).  Known for their delightfully irreverent approach and well-crafted performances, The Vagabones enjoy presenting concerts that range from the ridiculous to the sublime, from classical to jazz, and everything in between.  This performance ranges from O'Toole and Jobim to Debussy and Sousa, and they've got something for everyone!

Our new Presiding Bishop-Elect

Last week, we issued a Call to Prayer, as the General Convention No 78 elected the 28th Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church. That has now happened, and here is your opportunity to meet The Right Rev. Michael Curry, current Diocesan Bishop of North Carolina. Bishop Curry will be our first African-American Presiding Bishop when he is so consecrated in Novenber. Click on the link to see a video interview with him. You will likely be very favorably impressed.

The Art of Storytelling

On Tuesday, July 14 th there will be storytelling in the Parish Hall starting at 7:00 pm. Everyone is welcome - adults and children. Come to hear a story, or bring a story of your own to tell. These storytellers are professional tale spinners. If you've never been held spellbound by Reba Ott telling a story - oh my - you really need to come to storytelling!
News From The Atrium

Dear all,

I hope the summer is going well for all.  What a gift REST is.  Abide in me, says Jesus, and you will produce much fruit.

The atrium will be open this Sunday from 9:15am.  The littler ones can come in at 10:15.  Would you let me know if you plan to bring a child? I can better prepare that way.  I'm currently working on the books of the Bible material for Level II. So I may be able to present that this Sunday to any 6 and aboves.

Peace,

Kelly

An Invitation to Sing!

Our Music Director Sara, and the choir members invite you to sing with us this coming Sunday -- that's right, Sunday morning on the anthem  Sound crazy? Well it isn't. Just meet us in the choir room at 10am, and we will teach you this simple, yet simply beautiful anthem. Based on the prayer attributed to St. Francis, it is such a joy to sing. Practice it 2-3 times with us, and you'll have it with no problem. Sit with your family, then just stroll up when Sara gives the signal and we'll all make a joyful noise together. No fuss with robes, etc. It's called a "pick-up choir" and the anthem is "Lord, Make Me a Channel of Your Blessing." Be a Blessing on Sunday morning and sing with us. We'll have a wonderful time.

Postludes Aren't Just for Leaving

You may have noticed lately, some particularly beautiful organ music wafting through the nave as you make your way out. Slow down, or better yet, stop entirely and listen for a few moments to the splendid postludes being presented by our Music Director, Sara Burden-McClure.  They represent Sara's offering of talent, and preparation time to God, and a benefit for us. Be sure to honor that with your attention and a word of appreciation to Sara.
Prayer Intercessors

Intercession

Intercession is about love, and learning to love. Intercession is about love that is both expressed and learned. We express our love for another when we pray for them, and we learn to love them even more, even our enemies.

-Br. James Koester

From the Society of Saint John the Evangelist

One of the ways we express our love here at Resurrection is through Intercessory Prayer. We have intercessors praying each day of the week, but we would love to have even more. If you would like to participate, contact Linda Bryant or Mary Morrison, and we'll be glad to give you any information you might need to get you started.
