 AZ Creative Aging: Teaching Artist Institute Application Available Next Month
Last month the Arts Commission launched AZ Creative Aging, a three-year initiative to embed creative aging knowledge and best practices in the community, generously supported by Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust. The first programmatic component of the initiative is a five-month Teaching Artist Institute that will begin in January 2016. Through this comprehensive training program, teaching artists will gain the specialized knowledge required to work with older adults. Detailed information and application guidelines for the AZ Creative Aging Teaching Artist Institute will be published at
www.azarts.gov/azcreativeaging
in early November.

 2016 Arizona Poetry Out Loud School Registration Open through October 30th
Poetry Out Loud (POL) is a national poetry recitation contest for high schools that provides free classroom materials for teachers and scholarship opportunities for students. POL is open to all Arizona students, grades 9-12.

High School Model Cornerstone Assessment Pilot Project
Deadline: October 21, 2015
The National Coalition for Core Arts Standards (NCCAS) is seeking high school arts educators to pilot the National Core Arts Standards Model Cornerstone Assessments (MCAs) in dance, media arts, music, theatre and visual arts during the 2015-2016 school year. Twelve to fifteen educators from each of the five arts disciplines will be selected to pilot the assessments in their disciplines.

Kennedy Center's Partners in Education Program Accepting Applications
Deadline: October 30, 2015
The Kennedy Center's Partners in Education program is a national network of arts organizations and school districts that work together to provide professional learning in the arts for teachers. The program is based on the belief that teachers' professional learning is an essential component of any effort designed to increase the artistic literacy of young people.

Resources on Close Reading of the Arts
The Arizona Department of Education and the Arizona Commission on the Arts recently collaborated on a teacher professional development pilot program, Arts2Go. Resources from this pilot, developed by Arizona Opera, Childsplay and Phoenix Art Museum, are now available online.

National Education Association (NEA) Foundation Grants
Deadline: October 15, 2015
The NEA Foundation has two grant opportunities for teachers, counselors or education support professionals. Learning & Leadership Grants fund participation in high-quality professional development experiences. Student Achievement Grants fund programs to improve the academic achievement of students in public schools and public higher education institutions in any subject area(s).

Chamber Music America Residency Partnership Program
Deadline: November 6, 2015
This funding program supports professional ensembles and presenters to develop activities that take place in community settings and that are not part of a regular concert series. Activities may include, but are not limited to, interactive or audience engagement programs in classrooms (preschool through high school), libraries, hospitals, senior centers, or other community venues.

Using Music to Teach Math Grants
Deadline: November 6, 2015
A program of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the purpose of this grant is to incorporate music into the elementary school classroom to help young students learn mathematics. For 2016-17, grants will be awarded to individual classroom teachers, or small groups of teachers collaborating in one grade or across grade levels, currently teaching mathematics in grades Pre-K-2 level.

A Blade of Grass Fellowship for Socially Engaged Art
LOI Deadline: November 20, 2015
This one-year fellowship for individual artists and collectives pairs project support of $20,000 with strategic support, assessment tools, video documentation, and other tailored resources for socially engaged artists working nationwide. Seven to ten artists or collectives per year are selected via an open application process.
