Ask Admissions Directors!
We know that looking for the right school for you child can be a daunting process so admissionsdirector
we went right to Admissions Directors at several of our school partners and asked them...

Elizabeth King,  Director of Admissions
The Galloway School
Make a list of all the things that you expect to find in a great school such as engaging instruction from highly qualified teachers, a challenging curriculum, high expectations for student achievement, small classes, a great campus with proud traditions, students who are well-prepared to head off to top-tier colleges, a wide array of extra-curricular activities, and so on. Use that list as a guide to assess schools and decide which ones hold the greatest interest for you.

Then, try to get an understanding of a  school's culture. This intangible asset is one of the most important elements in finding the school that is right for your family.  Look for a school where the culture matches your own values and where the student journey goes beyond the ordinary independent school experience. To get a sense of a school's culture, you need to visit the campus (probably more than once) and see the students and teachers in action both inside and outside of the classroom. Then, spend time reflecting on what you observed. Were the children busy, joyful and engaged? Did the school feel right? Were you impressed with the teachers and the students?  Did you feel welcome? At the end of the day, the old adage applies-you'll know it when you see it.  It will feel right.

Susan Berk,  Admissions Director
The Epstein School
The most important thing parents can do is research every school and make the most informed decision as to the right school. Parents should visit all potential schools with a checklist of items pertaining to their family's educational and school community goals. Understanding what you're looking for and then exploring all the options is the best way to find the perfect fit for your student(s) and family.

Ernestine Morgan, Director of Admission
Springmont School
At Springmont, we look at the admission process holistically and advise you to see the process in the same manner. Think about what you want academically for your child and also consider how you feel about each school you consider. It is important to visit several schools to get a feel for the school culture to make sure the values and mission align with your own. And finally, engage with current and alumni parents and share their experiences, so you may get a sense of their experiences. Remember, the admission staff's goal, especially at Springmont, is to help your family become part of a close community with ties that last a lifetime.

Rise Arkin,  Director of Admissions
The Weber School
The best way to evaluate a school -- including its academics, extra-curriculars, and school culture -- is to WALK THE HALLS! Call the Admissions Director and schedule a visit for a regular school day. At Weber, we think it's key for parents to visit while school is in session -- when parents have the opportunity to informally talk to students, observe classes, and eavesdrop on student-teacher interactions, they can more easily assess whether the school's academics, culture, and philosophy is a good fit. Searching for the best school for your family can seem daunting, but the Admissions Director is there to help you navigate the process and alleviate your stress.

Lisa Mirsky, Director of Admissions
The Davis Academy
The advice I always give to parents who are starting the process of finding the right school for their child is to explore multiple options.  Here in Atlanta, we are so fortunate to have a variety of independent schools that each offer something unique and different.  Until you visit for yourself, you cannot truly appreciate the unique culture, curriculum, and community within a school.  As you explore school choices that you feel align with your child's needs and your family's values, it is important to recognize your child's strengths and identify realistic social, emotional, and academic goals for your child, so that you can ask the right questions when you visit schools. That being said, it is equally as important to pay attention to the questions that the schools ask of you.  At the end of the day, you want to be sure that the school that you choose knows and understands your child's needs, so that together you can partner to ensure your child reaches his or her fullest potential.

Daytime, after-school and weekend classes are offered for ages 3-18 at a number of locations, including private lessons and classes in your home!

Creative Dramatics classes for ages 3-6 are a great way for little performers to get their feet wet and experience being a star while playing drama games, acting out stories, dancing, and expressing themselves creatively.  Musical Theatre, Acting, Dance and Vocal Performance students in 1st-12th grade will all receive training in their respective art forms while also engaging in warmups, technique building, and rehearsal for the Showcase.  Every fall student will be invited to perform in our Fall Showcase at a professional theatre (the Frank Theatre inside the Atlanta Jewish Community Center) at the end of the semester.  Our fall showcase theme is "Once Upon A Time".  Creative Dramatics and Musical Theatre classes will work on material from classic fairytale musicals such as "Into the Woods", "Cinderella", and "Once Upon a Mattress".  Acting classes will work on material from international fairytales.  Students enrolled in Vocal Performance, Dance for Musical Theatre, Monologue Coaching and private lessons will also perform in the Showcase to show how they have grown as performers over the course of the semester.

Children and youth with all levels of training and experience are welcome to join our program.  Just come ready to play, learn, work hard, and have fun!
