H-Club Helps Central Students Stay "Above the Influence"
|
Our H-Club Varsity Athletes spent Tuesday at Central Middle School working with students to remember to stay "Above the Influence". The athletes put together three different activities for the middle school students. One group had posters about why they were staying above the influence and had the kids talk about why they wanted to stay above the influence. Another group was running a trivia about drugs and alcohol, and some of the harms they can do to your body. The last group was working with the drunk goggles and having students put them on, and try to do basic functions. Everything went really well and the Central kids were very interested in each activity!

Chemistry II
|
Mrs. Lauer's Chemistry II classes were given the task of proposing the optimal design for the most cost-effective hand warmer that is nontoxic and least harmful to the environment. This was done during their thermodynamics unit. In addition to performing chemical experiments, the students were looking at cost for marketing and Material Safety Data Sheets for toxicity concerns. These second year chemistry students were completely independent in the lab looking at real world scenarios. They learned that the best chemical for enthalpy was not necessarily the best cost or good for the environment.

Check out the slideshows of the brands students found, (period 3 and period 4). How many do you recognize on a daily basis?
Goose Chase is a free app that allows students to compete against a total of 10 teams to complete missions.
