MESSAGE FROM ADMINISTRATORS
Dear RPRY Community,

As I wrote last week, the situation in Israel has been on all of our minds, and it cries out for us to do something as a school community. So, this coming Thursday, October 29, RPRY will have a Yom Achdut: Unity Day For Israel, with special programming for each class.

The idea behind the Yom Achdut is that there is so much hatred and violence at the root of the current matzav (situation). So, we should be promoting friendship and achdut as a way of appealing to Hashem for His intervention. This is an appropriate message for all grade levels.

I want to thank Paige Kramer for initially suggesting a school-wide event, and Elana Kurtz and Ilana Bohm for conceptualizing the program.

More information will be provided next week about this opportunity for our students to show their commitment to Israel and to our fellow Jews.

Shabbat Shalom,

Rabbi Daniel Loew
Head of School

Dear Parents of Early Childhood Students,

This week, our yiladim enjoyed the colorful foliage all around our school.  Classes went for nature walks, gathering leaves and pine cones. They also created their own fall scenes.

In Parshat Lech Lecha, Hashem told Avraham that he will have as many children as there are grains of sand on the beach and as many children as there are stars in the sky. Follow our journey from Charan to Canaan in some of the photos below.

Please come and check out the artwork in our Early Childhood wing. It is such a pleasure to walk down the halls. It gives me such a great feeling and is so uplifting and I am sure you will feel the same way!

Reminder:
Thursday, November 5th is our Faculty In-Service. There is no school on that day.  We are offering a supervised activity program.  The deadline for signing up is this Monday, October 26th.  Please fill out the attached form and return it on Monday along with a check.

AN EVENT'FULL' WEEK AT RPRY
Early Childhood
Our Early Childhood students got into the Fall spirit, playing outdoors, collecting leaves and creating trees. They got creative learning about Parshat Lech Lecha by playing with sand, dressing up and making footsteps from Charan to Canaan.

Lower School

Mrs. Ilene Weintraub's Kindergarten students learned about leaves and acorns, examining the the leaf veins with a magnifying glass, creating their own Fall colored leaves, and doing leaf rubbings.

Middle School

Ms. Marla Liebhaber's 5th grade Language Arts students practiced using elaboration to improve their descriptive writing. After adding details to a given paragraph to make it more interesting, they then wrote their own descriptive paragraphs about one of their favorite possessions. They worked in pairs to proofread and revise before using Google Docs to type up their final copies on their chromebooks.

Mrs. Linda Garfinkel's 6th grade boys worked in pairs on an activity about survival in the Stone Age in Social Studies.

COMMUNITY EVENTS
GET OUT AND VOTE!!
Teach NJS, a partnership of 20 day schools, 2 Federations and the Orthodox Union Advocacy Center, reminds YOU to Get Out and Vote on November 3, 2015. Polls are open from 6AM to 8PM.

This year is the first time since 1999 that the State Assembly is the highest office on the ballot. It is anticipated that the statewide turnout will be less than 20%. This gives our community a unique opportunity to be noticed and heard if everyone comes and votes. This will increase our chance for successfully advocating for increased funding from Trenton, for our children's education.

Can't make it to the polling station on November 3rd? No problem! Please click on this link to request an absentee ballot form to be sent directly to your home. The deadline to apply is on Tuesday, October 27th.

PEACE OF MIND 2016
Last week Dr. Danny Brom, founder and director of The Israel Center for the Treatment of Psychotrauma, visited with our community and spoke about trauma in Israel and how the Peace of Mind (POM) initiative is making a difference in the lives of IDF combat veterans in their transition back to civilian life. Those who joined our community's POM activities in 2014 - for Friday night dinner or Shabbat morning - experienced firsthand the effect our Jewish community had on our soldiers and us.  We are working to bring another IDF unit to our community in Nov, 2016. Please help us make this happen. All checks, made out to American Friends of Herzog Hospital, can be sent to Koenigson, 221 Washington Ave., Edison, NJ 08817.
