Pray for the families who have suffered loss.
In South Carolina, many are feeling the effects of the devastating weather event that has caused flooding, loss of property, loss of livelihood and even loss of loved ones. The impact of this devastating natural disaster will be felt for many years to come. Advent UMC is in the beginning staged of a coordinated effort of response.

How can we help?
  • First, pray. Pray for families who have suffered loss. Pray all those who put themselves in harm's way to care those affected. Pray for God's guidance on the recovery efforts.
  • Second, on Sunday, we will have an opportunity to give of our financial resources as we collect an offering at all three services that will go directly to UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief). 100% of your gift will go to directly to assist those impacted by the flood.
  • Advent will begin collecting items on Wednesday morning that will be transported to UMC's in the midlands for dispersing. The following items are needed and can be brought to Advent and left in the boxes designated in the Church Offices located in the Education Building.  Items we are collecting include:

  • bottled water
  • baby supplies (bottles, diapers, wipes, formula, clothes, etc.)
  • personal items (deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, etc.)
  • toilet tissue
  • hand sanitizer
  • ready to eat canned food items

  • In the UMC, the initial response to a natural disaster is led by ERT (Emergency Response Team). The ERT Trained personnel from Advent will be sending a team as early as next week. If you are ERT trained and have an interest in serving, please email Leigh Randall.
  • As the recovery efforts continue, additional teams will be able to be sent to assist with recovery. Advent UMC has plans to send multiple teams throughout the next year (at minimum). Prayerfully consider offering your time and talents to these efforts.
  • Finally, consider being trained as an ERT (Emergency Response Team) Member. ERT training is available on Saturday, October 10 from 9am-5pm at Sharon UMC. The cost of the training is $35. To sign up for the ERT Training on Saturday, please contact Leigh Randall.

Advent, you always go above and beyond when responding to needs around us.  Thank you in advance for the lives you will impact through your generosity.

"As people of faith, we hold onto the promise that God is faithful in the midst of the storm and the flood. God's love will triumph in the midst of loss and destruction."
