MEM Represented at Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing
The event was held October 14 thru October 16 in Houston, Texas
On October 14-16th Adjunct Faculty Peggy Matson (right in the picture above) represented MEM at the Grace Hopper Conference - the world's largest technical conference for women in computing with around 12,000 attendees from over 60 countries.  Northwestern collaborated with other members of the MEMPC to sponsor the event and try to increase awareness of the MEM degree.  This is one of the first events that the MEMPC has participated to promote the degree to a national audience.

The conference brought together the community of women technologists, increased exposure for the contributions of women to computing, and was co-presented by the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM).

Guest speakers came from Carnegie Mellon University, Forbes, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and more.  The conference results in collaborative proposals, networking and mentoring for the attendees. Conference presenters are leaders in their respective fields, representing industry, academia and government. The conference also offers professional development through a variety of activities.

Northwestern Named Sixth Most Innovative University in the World
Reuters ranked the top 100 universities in the world
Reuters News recently wanted to discover the answer to what it means to be innovative. With such a tricky question, Reuters used a data-based methodology that employed 10 different metrics in order to find the answer. They finally developed a list of  the world's top 100 most innovative universities and ranked Northwestern University number six.

Helping boost Northwestern to the top of the list was the over  $600 million received annually in research funding. Also, the success of Northwestern based start-ups Naurex, which was recently sold to pharmaceutical company Allergan for $560 million and MAKO Surgical, which was purchased by Stryker Corp in 2013 for more than $1.6 billion.
