LIGHT UP THE WORLD
Summer Update

We hope you're having a great summer!

This past quarter, our team brought solar electricity to three more communities in  Peru, visit us on facebook to see what we've been up to. A special thanks to all the volunteers that came with us to the Andes to make them a success.

If you're in Edmonton on September 24th, come and find us at U of A's Go Abroad Fair. We're also continuing to offer many opportunities to learn more about solar technology and volunteer in the upcoming months. Read on to learn about our solar training opportunities in Calgary and Peru, and our volunteer trip in Peru in November.

Do you collect Aeroplan miles? Help us reach our goal of collecting 100,000 points during the month of September to get our project staff to Guatemala! Stay tuned - campaign launches September 1st!

Lastly - S ave the date! LUTW is launching an exciting new annual fundraising dinner, join us for Dinner in the Dark at TELUS Spark on November 5th - details coming this Fall!

Solar Training Opportunities
Register now for the November 14th workshop
Want to learn how to design, install and maintain off-grid solar systems? Join us for our Solar 101 workshop in Calgary. The workshop will cover the very basics of solar photovoltaic (PV) technology with a particular focus small-scale, off-grid systems similar to those that LUTW designs and installs in remote communities. The workshop fee is $45 and $25 for students. Materials will be provided and all proceeds go to support LUTW's programs.
March 10th - 19th, 2016
Learn how to install basic low-voltage off-grid solar PV systems on your own by taking part in the off-grid solar PV training field course in the Peruvian Andes. This intensive training program includes a mix of classroom, practical hands-on exercises and site visits to evaluate existing installations. The program culminates with an off-grid solar electric system installation in a rural community building.

Volunteer Opportunities

November 8-17, 2015
We have one spot left for our solar volunteer program in Peru in November. Join us and install solar home systems in a remote community in the Andes. Volunteers will be helping families gain access to basic electricity renewable energy in some of the most remote and underserved parts of Peru. Volunteers will learn about solar energy projects and receive basic solar training, no previous experience with solar is necessary. This is a unique and rewarding experience for anyone interested in sustainability and community development.

Peru Project Update

This past May we completed the first phase of training and solar installations in the rural community of Soras in Peru. Now, 30 off-grid families have access to solar home systems that power electric light, their radios and cell phones. A special thank you to volunteers and TransAlta Corp. for supporting this project.

4 EASY WAYS TO GET INVOLVED

LUTW is often approached by generous individuals who would like to help us achieve our mission, so we've come up with three easy ways we could use your help:
Help keep the lights on - we rely on monthly supporters to fund ongoing training and support for local technicians.
Save yourself some money, support sustainable power, and by using our referral code, the monthly electrical fee will be donated to LUTW.
