Dateline DA December 2015
Adopt a family

It's that time of year when we all focus on giving back to the community. For many years now, Denver Academy has participated in a project called Adopt-a-Family. Adopt-a-Family is where each division in our school adopts a family in need for the holiday season and supplies them with gifts and needed clothing and home goods. Over the years it has supplied hundreds of families with gifts and a wonderful holiday season. If it was not for our school, many of these families would have no gifts at all.

When your student comes home from school with information about Adopt-a-Family, please keep these families in mind as you do your own shopping. For elementary students, please look in their homework folders for this information. Gift collection will begin on December 8 and end December 11. Please bring gifts wrapped and ready to distribute.

Thank you for your generosity during this holiday season.

Sincerely,
Abby Bridgewater

Scholastic Book Fair update
Thank you so much for your support at our Scholastic Book Fair! We had any extremely successful fair, selling over $5,300 worth of items (we'll have over $2,600 of that come back to the library). We were also able to put over 70 new books worth nearly $750 in classrooms due to classroom wish list donations. Our parent and student volunteers were also amazingly helpful. They did everything from providing snacks for the teachers to creating decorations for the fair to setting up, staffing, and packing up the fair. We are so grateful for your support and generosity! (View photos of the event!) And mark your calendars--our Barnes & Noble in-store event night and book fair will be Wednesday, Feb. 10 from 3:30-6:00 p.m.

Teacher Wish Lists
Our recent book fair allowed teachers to receive classroom library wish list items, but some teachers still have remaining wish list items. If your child's teacher isn't listed, please contact Jolene Gutierrez and she'll touch base with the teacher. If you inform Jolene of items purchased, she'll keep the list updated.

Please join us in our efforts to eliminate waste by sending your student to school with a reusable water bottle.

Pond Renovation
The Denver Academy pond will be drained over Winter Break as part of a renovation process to enhance the beauty and environmental sustainability of the pond. The drainage process may be smelly and we appreciate your patience during this time.

Denver Academy has hired Front Range Patrol  to help with campus safety and security. Beyond performing one patrol of campus per night, Front Range Patrol is on call at all times to assist with security issues. We have placed signs on campus with contact information (303.591.9027). We are happy to report that we have yet to need their dispatch services.
