Introduction to Creative Aging: Myths of Aging and the Power of the Arts

Join us for this free workshop to learn about the myths of aging and how arts engagement benefits older adults. Jorge Merced , Associate Artistic Director of Pregones Theater, will provide a keynote on Creative Aging and an interactive exploration of the different approaches used across the continuum of care.

Who should attend? Anyone interested in the vital relationship between the arts and quality of life for older adults, including aging or healthcare service organization staff, teaching artists, and arts organization staff.

The Gershwin Legacy: Fascinating Rhythms of People of New York is an interactive, interdisciplinary workshop that focuses on the life, times and music of George and Ira Gershwin in conjunction with the migration of African Americans and Eastern European Jews to New York City in the early part of the 20th century. The session will give an over view of a ready to use, interdisciplinary unit which addresses both the Arizona State Social Studies standards as well as Common Core English Language Arts standards for drawing evidence from literary or informational texts to support analysis, reflection and research.

Desert Botanical Garden Teacher Workshop

The STEAM/Biomimicry workshop will explore the connections between science and design through the lens of biomimicry. This training accompanies the curriculum for the newest Garden tours based on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) education and Common Core Standards.

VSA's Arts and Special Education Conference provides professionals in the intersecting fields of arts education and special education the opportunity to share current information in research, practice, programs, and policy, and serve as a leading catalyst for change. The 2016 conference will take place August 1-2 in Pittsburgh.

The NAMM Foundation invites school districts and schools across the country to participate in its 17th annual Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) survey. This national award program recognizes commitment to music education and efforts to assure that comprehensive music education is part of the core curriculum for every child.

The President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Institute of Museum and Library Services, is accepting applications for the 2016 National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Awards. After-school and out-of-school time arts and humanities programs are encouraged to apply.

The Big Read Now Accepting Applications
Deadline: January 27, 2016
The Big Read provides citizens with the opportunity to read and discuss a single book within their communities. The program is accepting applications from nonprofit organizations to develop reading programs between September 2016 and June 2017.
 
Shakespeare in American Communities
Deadline: February 4, 2016
Arts Midwest invites proposals from nonprofit theater companies to perform works by Shakespeare for middle- and high-school students between August 1, 2016 and July 31, 2017. Grants will be awarded to support performances and related educational activities for students.
