PBS Show Market To Market Films At Limoneira

Iowa Public Television show Market to Market Producers visited Limoneira this past July and filmed at Limoneira's main Ranch in Santa Paula, California. B-roll and interview content focused on Limoneria's sustainability efforts and highlighted the Company's new Ecological Waste Water Treatment Facility, solar project and packing facilities.

Market to Market is produced by Iowa Public Television and airs exclusively on PBS stations across America. The program covers the more than $100 billion dollar business of food and issues affecting the citizens of rural America. It is the longest-running, nationally-syndicated television news program covering agriculture. Market to Market's experienced analysts and reporters provide thoughtful perspective on major commodity markets, price trends and strategies to help producers and processors survive and prosper (Iptv.org/MarketToMarket).

Limoneira's Wastewater Treatment Facility Continues The Company's Sustainability Tradition

Located behind Limoniera's five acre solar orchard, the Company's new waste water treatment project is one of California's first ecological wastewater treatment facilities. Wastewater from workforce housing and the Limoneira packing house is piped to the project area and treated using gravity. Water flows through a series of ponds with plants that feed on the bacteria in the water. Ultraviolet light (UV) is used to break down the bacteria and treated water will be used for irrigation. The project operates with significantly lower energy costs than conventional systems, utilizes a smaller carbon footprint and required one-third of the capital of typical waste water treatment projects.

Limoneira Lemon Lessons ™ Back To School Promotion And Nutrition

Summer has flown by and Labor Day is right around the corner. As families get kids ready for school, nutrition is an important topic. According to the Center For Disease Control in Atlanta, despite recent declines in the prevalence among preschool-aged children, obesity among children is still too high. For children and adolescents aged 2-19 years, the prevalence of obesity has remained fairly stable at about 17% and affects about 12.7 million children and adolescents for the past decade. Approximately 17% (or 12.7 million) of children and adolescents aged 2-19 years are obese*.

With busy working parents in many households, packing a nourishing, yet flavorful lunch for kids can be a challenge. It can be difficult and draining to provide tasty, healthy lunches throughout the year. Fortunately, our grocery stores are doing more to promote healthy choices and many even have dieticians and nutritionists at the store level.

Limoneira is doing its part to help. This fall, we've created a fun back-to-school promotion for our retail grocery Partners called Limoneira Lemon lessons™ which offers healthy recipes for Moms and Dads and an opportunity for students to win an Acer Chromebook.

Super Healthy Kids - Making Fruits And Vegetables Simple, Fun, And Delicious

Utah based, Super Healthy Kids has a simple mission. For kids to develop healthy habits, it's important for them to learn to love a variety of fruits and vegetables, in a variety of ways. Serving fruits or vegetables in different forms, textures, and temperatures will actually help children develop a mature palate, which is more accepting to a wider variety of new foods. Owners Amy Roskelley and Natalie Monson posit that parents should be in the business of training their kids tastes and appetites for real food, rather than a love for a specific vegetable (www.superhealthykids.com).

Amy Roskelley

Amy has a bachelor's degree in Health Education. Before she started Super Healthy Kids, she worked in a variety of settings teaching about healthy living and doing on site health assessments. Amy is a mom of 3 teens who has a passion for healthy living. You can find her hiking with her family in the amazing mountains of Utah, running in the early mornings, or in the kitchen experimenting with fruits and vegetables.

Natalie Monson

Natalie is a registered dietitian, and before Super Healthy Kids, worked in a variety of settings in the medical field. Natalie has always had a passion for healthy eating and active living. She has 3 young children and enjoys being in the kitchen and experimenting new foods with her kids. Natalie enjoys running races, working in her yard and garden, and spending time outdoors with her family.
