Summer Programs Recap

This Summer, Rebuilding Together Seattle partnered with 4 local companies for major Rebuilding Day projects to help 7 families and one community center with the critical home repairs they need! Employees from Concur, AllRecipes, Philips Electric, Foster Pepper PLLC, Costco and Ledcor all lent a hand to homeowners in need and completed countless repairs to make sure everyone can be safe and warm in their home.

On May 22nd, roughly 70 volunteers from Concur Technologies helped to repair Virginia's home in the Central District. Virginia, an 89 year old woman who is disabled, has lived in her home for many years and keeps active by volunteering regularly to serve meals to the homeless. Volunteers were able to clean up her yard, help her organize and clean her home, give her new appliances, create a working bathroom, and repaired some cracked windows.

On June 17, AllRecipes.com sponsored a Community Impact Day in Rainier Beach with over 100 employee volunteers. These volunteers assisted five families in one neighborhood, delivering necessary peace of mind to deserving homeowners. Volunteers installed brand new windows, repaired a rotting deck, installed new flooring, completed yard work, painted, and helped with clutter removal. To see more photos from the AllRecipes.com Community Impact Day, click here!

On June 30, about 20 volunteers from the local Philips Electric office repaired the Lockett family home in Rainier Valley. Loreen is 86 years old and needed many repairs at her home, including major repairs to her leaky roof. On the rebuilding day, volunteers replaced flooring throughout the home, tore out an old deck, built a new staircase, and installed a new fridge and range in the kitchen. Thanks to a special grant, RTS will also be able to complete part of the roof repairs Loreen needs!

On July 17, about 50 volunteers from Foster Pepper PLLC, Costco and Ledcor helped to renovate the Ethiopian Community in Seattle Center on Rainier Avenue. RTS wanted to give back to ECS for assisting us with a meeting space for the AllRecipes.com Community Impact Day in June and we were able to do so with help of some great sponsors. Volunteers painted the kids play room, assembled new desks and chairs, installed new cubbies, did lots of yard work, and painted the exterior.

A big thank you to Division 9 Flooring in Woodinville who provided a huge donation of 6,000 square feet of new carpet for the Ethiopian Community in Seattle. Your support of our organization's mission, and ECS, is overwhelmingly generous.
THANK YOU!
Fiscal Year 2014 Program Impact

This past fiscal year, Rebuilding Together Seattle planned to help 112 families with the repairs they need to stay safe and warm in their homes. Because of the generous support of our donors, sponsors, and volunteers, we were able to completely blast past this goal by assisting 140 households by June 30, 2014.

Thank you for making our mission possible!

Homeowner Spotlight

In March of 2014, a staff member at the Senior Center of West Seattle contacted Rebuilding Together Seattle to get help for Cynthia, a regular visitor of the center. Cynthia had been fighting major health issues for years that limited her mobility. When leaving the home for frequent doctors appointments, Cynthia had to have friends and neighbors carry her down her back staircase in order for her to safely leave her home.

"This ramp means total freedom for me."

Early on in 2014, Cynthia learned she would need to have another surgery. The recovery from the operation would leave her in a wheel chair, with no way to enter and exit her home. With the support of her advocate at the Senior Center of West Seattle, Cynthia applied for help from RTS. Thanks to a generous donation from Alki Lumber and the work of one of our loyal volunteer teams, Cythnia was able to have a ramp constructed in her back yard within a month of her initial application.

After volunteers left her home, Cynthia shared: "This ramp means total freedom for me. I had surgery on my left foot four years ago and had to see the doctor weekly, having people carry me down the stairs. Now I just wheel out there and I'm gone. It makes all the difference in the world to me!"
