WCAC Coat Drive Huge Success
Community support will keep children warm this winter
Worcester, Massachusetts - The Worcester Community Action Council, Inc. extends its heartfelt thanks for incredible community support demonstrated for its annual coat drive. This year's drive provided nearly 450 new winter coats to children - infants through age 5 - enrolled in the agency's Early Head Start, Head Start and Healthy Families programs, as well as to the children of young parents enrolled in WCAC's Job & Education Center. Some 381 individual coats were donated as well as $3,200 in contributions by area corporations to support the effort.

"The need for this program continues to grow each year. We know all too well how cold winter here in New England can be. The families we serve are making strides to reach self-sufficiency, but often times the expense of a new coat is simply too much," said Executive Director Jill C. Dagilis. "On behalf of the young children who will now be warm this winter, we express our heartfelt thanks. The generosity of this community is incredible and so greatly appreciated."

National Grid and
Commerce Bank once again led the way with their generosity, with the two combining to provide more than half of the donated coats. Additional coat donations were gratefully accepted from  PENTA Communications Southbridge Savings Bank AllCom Credit Union ,
City of Worcester employees,
Family Services of Central MassachusettsKnights of Columbus of Auburn Webster Five and countless individual donations. Additionally, the  Creative Hands group of the Worcester Senior Center donated more than 200 hand-made hats and mittens.

Generous financial contributions to support the purchase of new winter coats were received from  Worcester Rotary Club Bay State Savings Bank Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and
Dr. Satya Mitra. View a photo album of the 2015 Coat Drive here.
