(Something we do a lot!)
It's called

Click the link. Enter your email and you are ready! Oh Life will send you a daily email that you simply respond to with your daily entry and your journal has started!

THE 5 LOVE LANGUAGES:
graphic-heart.gif
How do you like to be shown love?
Here are the 5 Love Languages:

 1. Words of Affirmation - use words to affirm others

2. Acts of Service- actions speak louder than words

3.Receiving Gifts-you feel most loved when receiving a gift

4. Quality Time- giving a person your undivided attention

5. Physical Touch- touch helps you to feel you are loved

Knowing what your love language is and what it is for the people in your lives - how they want to be shown love- is a great way to improve your relationships with yourself and others!

Focus on the Yogis!

Priya Kearney
I grew up in Mumbai (then called Bombay), India. My earliest memories are of going to the beach most mornings with my family, playing with my sisters and practicing yoga with my mother, then coming home to prepare and eat delicious vegetarian meals. As we cooked together mom would have us chant mantras or prayers (bhajans) to infuse the food with divine energy. Yoga was a way of life. Some of the parts of Putanjali's yoga were woven into our daily routine, the goal being enlightenment or union with the divine. To this day my mom (91 years young) can easliy go into Halasana (plow pose) with no problem.
When our entire family emigrated to the US I got caught up in the fast paced lifestyle here and was not very regular with my yoga practice and daily walks. We also missed our extended family and found the lifestyle in the West very isolating and lonesome. I started looking for interesting things to do and my interest in meditation lead me to a retreat in Boston where I met my husband, Michael. WE learned Kriya Yoga meditation, tried Kundalini and YinYoga, received Reiki and learned various sanskrit mantras, chants, poojas (prayer rituals) and fire ceremonies. My interesst in Hatha yoga was rekindled when I attended a yoga class taught by a medical student studying the health benefits of yoga and healing rituals of Hindu and Tibetan Buddhist traditions.
For much of the last decade I have managed type II diabetes without medication by discovering the roots of healthy cooking with Ayurvedic methods using healing herbs and healthy ingredients. I discovered that this is the way I grew up; cooking following the Ayurvedic principles.
I have taken the traditional Indian and western ingredients and simplified cooking so we can incorporate these foods into our busy western schedules.
Michael and I have recently discovered Liberty Yoga and we love the feeling of community, enthusiasm and healing space created by Christine and Erin at the studio.

Paula Bairstow
My yoga journey began about 16 years ago, when I attended beginners classes taught by my chiropractor.  I enjoyed the classes, but as the 8 class series ended, my life got busy with family and work, our first child arriving, and of course lots of grown-up type "stuff" happening that became my focus.  I forgot all about yoga and got busy getting this "stuff" dealt with, and proceeded to really neglect myself along the way.  I took on a lot of stress, gained a lot of weight ,and became thoughtless about food and lifestyle choices.  After the birth of my second son in 2002, I weighed almost 200 pounds, my mood was up and down, and I continued to have back pain that at times was overwhelming.  I was pretty miserable about the state I was in, and decided to take a look at my relationship with food.  I read some books, and made some changes.  I lost about 75 pounds, pretty awesome yeah me, and felt better in many ways.  And all that without any exercise!  So I was more slim, but my mood was still up and down, and I was still easily overwhelmed and anxious.  I didn't sleep well.  And on top of that, as the kids started to get active, I struggled physically at times to keep up.  So, after encouragement from my doctor, I joined a local gym and began enjoying group fitness classes.  I loved spinning and step classes, started kick boxing and swimming, and after a few years even completed a triathlon!  My mood really did improve, and I was doing better managing stress.  I added some yoga in here and there, and did really enjoy the poses and the stretching.  But I still wasn't focused on the bigger possibilities with yoga....

And in addition to that physical stuff, I find myself starting to look more closely at my inner thoughts, my focus, and my intentions during my practice.  My mind is getting stronger.  With a growing commitment to a consistent practice, I have during this past year become increasingly aware of the power of yoga to transform my emotional energy centers.  Yoga seems to have ignited my inner light.  And I know I'm taking the positive energy I create in my practice with me outside of the studio.  At home with my family, in my work as a counselor, and even with strangers.  I know for sure I'm a better person to myself, my spouse, my kids, my coworkers and clients, and my fellow community members because of yoga.  Yoga is good for me and good for anyone else I connect with along my way.  Paying forward a good mood and good "stuff".

And over these past few months, I have discovered a secret little gift at the studio I didn't expect.  The gift of the community of yogis!  I am not sure if this sense of community happens at every studio since this is my only yoga studio membership experience, but I sure do feel it at Liberty.  I feel the love! There's a whole lot of soul growing at Liberty.  It feels great to show up.  And I feel safe showing up with my "stuff" in class.  Because everyone brings theirs too, and just shows up. You have this awesome thing in common with everyone there...our yoga, and our desire to do something nice for ourselves that brings us a little bit closer to our personal contentment.  Our inner peace.  Our happy place.  And we get to move together and breathe together and collect our energy and focus it on our common goals, together.  It's amazing and powerful and full of potential.  It's inspiring! So inspiring, that I want to come together with our amazing community members and deepen our practice even more.  I know for sure now that every one of us has stuff, and  everyone has methods for managing the stuff, beyond using the poses of yoga.  We all have skills, talents, wise thoughts, and valuable life experiences to share.  We are all uniquely gifted teachers.

LIFE Discussion Group

I think it would be great to come together to explore what we all do with our energy as members of our communities, and discuss as a group how what we are learning in our yoga practices on the mat, shows up outside of the studio off the mat. I am excited to lead this discussion group with Christine and the Liberty community of yogis about our approaches to taking on life, in our safe, cozy community setting at the studio. This is not the poses part of our practice, but the mindfulness piece. The thoughts connect to feelings and lead to actions part. A chance to come together to explore what's happening in our lives and check in with each other about what we think, how we feel, and what we are doing to manage.  Let's discuss how we cope, play, parent, commune, offer service, and engage our energy. Let's identify some topics and tap into what we are all doing to live our best lives.  We call the group LIFE
, which stands for Living in Full Energy. Because the intention of the group is to support each person in their efforts to live life fully plugged in to our potential for being. LIFE at Liberty...in the pursuit of happiness. The more I get to know my fellow yogis the more I like our collective energy and care that each of us can shine as brightly as possible.  I'm excited to see what will happen if we just show up, together, as a group.  Show up.  And don't forget to bring your "stuff".  I hope you will.  You all inspire me.  Namaste.
~Paula
