A New Liberty Yoga
Community Group
Who is your community? Where do you go for support? Many people when first coming to Yoga find they are just there for the physical practice. What they come to discover is that yoga offers a deep sense of community and belonging within a framework of like minded people. Liberty Yoga wants to offer the opportunity to grow and explore your LIFE and tap into your ability to
 Live In Full Energy.

Paula Bairstow
Liberty Yoga invites you to join us as we take on L*I*F*E, a social community group lead by Christine Shaw and Paula Bairstow, LPCMH (Licensed Professional Counselor of Mental Health). Together with our Liberty Yoga members, the group will explore topics such as paths to happiness, managing anxiety, the mind-body connection, parenting, and healing/ becoming whole. The LIFE group will address these concepts, and many more, in our familiar setting at the studio, with the intention of supporting and learning from one another, and providing a foundation of a positive and uplifting community.
Paula and Christine will be facilitating this donation based class in an open discussion format
typically held on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month from 8am to 9:30am.

We will begin in February. In February, the group will be held on the 1st (2/2), 2nd (2/9) and the 4th (2/23) Sundays.

Focus on the Yogis
Two Yogi's from Liberty Yoga share their inspiring stories of courage, struggles and strength. Here's how adding Yoga to their lives has made a difference!

Anne Marie Basye's Story

I first joined Liberty Yoga last Spring, specifically to strengthen my left arm and wrist post surgery and PT for a double compound fracture with nerve damage.   I started attending only therapeutic classes and after about 3 months was very pleased with the improvement. As my wrist improved, the pain in my low back emerged (I think my wrist pain was so severe that I never noticed my back pain!) In addition to Therapeutic Yoga, I sought Chiropractic treatment for my back which only resulted in short-term minor relief.  After following up with my PCP, x-ray's and consulting a spine specialist, I discovered that I had an extra lumbar vertebra which was fused on the right side with my L-5 vertebrae and both L-5 and L-6 were shifting right. This condition could subsequently cause me to loose the ability to walk, and my spine doctor advised aggressive PT or aggressive spine and core strengthening yoga.  I have opted for a more aggressive yoga program! Now incorporating FLY! Vinyasa classes with restorative classes, I have improved my pain and mobility functions remarkably.  Most notable has been the Thanksgiving week when I traveled and took no yoga classes. The result was a return of compromised mobility and pain!

I believe that there are many paths to health and well being, and that we all have choices.  I appreciate the partnership and support that I have with all the folks at Liberty Yoga, both students and teachers, for the choices that I am making for my personal well being.

Jess Munyan's Story

My name is Jess Munyan and I have been on my yoga journey for about three years. Yoga is definitely a huge part of my life now and I even get teased about how often I go, but it hasn't always been that way. I began practicing yoga when my mom and her friends talked me into going to a few classes with Erin as the instructor. I enjoyed those beginning classes and kept going, but I really only viewed yoga as a way to stretch your body. I continued to go to yoga classes, but never more than once a week and would often take weeks off. Then last year I started a new job. With an hour commute and a hectic schedule, I stopped going to yoga altogether. I also stopped riding my horses and stopped running. By December, I was worn out and miserable. I wasn't happy with my job or my attitude or myself and I knew I had to change something! That is when I joined Liberty Yoga. At first I had to force myself to go to classes but quickly it became part of my weekly schedule and I looked forward to yoga. I started recognizing people in class andthen getting to know them as well. I used this time as "me" time and not only was I getting a good stretch, now I was using class as a stress reliever. I started taking yoga more seriously this time around and reaped all the benefits. Focusing on my breath helps me run longer. Coming to class regularly helps me be less sore those few times a month I do ride my horse. Being mindful in class reminds me that I need to think about my words and actions in everyday life. Creating relationships with the people that also attend class inspires me to be committed and persevere. And I have discovered that yoga is not easy! Whether it is holding an intense stretch, trying something new, or just quieting your mind, yoga challenges me each day. A yoga instructor said, "The beauty is that people often come here for the stretch, and leave with a lot more." It took me a while to realize this but that is part of the journey.
