Get Playful with...
The Art of Playful Practice Workshop w/ LIVE guitar!!
with Zach and Susie
Sunday, April 6
1-3pm
$30 / $15 (autorenew)

This workshop's focus will be to shed light on the true reason(s) for your yoga practice.  By bringing this creative Shakti energy and focusing on "Lila" (the name for "play" in Hindi) to the forefront we are tapping into our true nature and calling in life.  Have fun as you move through this 90 minute class where the focus will be on bringing out the individuality of each practitioner through vinyasana, pranayama, chanting, mudras (hand gestures), speech and action. Learn how to practice and express yourself in the way you are meant to shine!

We will begin with discussion followed by 90 minutes of practice. The practice will be safe and challenging, do-able and fulfilling and most of all representative of you!

Enjoy Live guitar music by Susie's husband Sean Cohen.

All are welcome to come and test their mental and physical edges!

Get Inverted with...
ShoulderStand Workshop
with Kathleen
Saturday, April 12
12-3pm
$30

This workshop's focus will be on shoulderstands led by longtime local yoga teacher, Kathleen Wright.  Kathleen has been practicing yoga for more than 30 years.  She has been teaching continuously, both public & private classes since the mid-90's.  She is an E-RYT 500 hour teacher and studied with senior IYENGAR teachers in the U.S., India and elsewhere. The magic of the use of props will be Kathleen's focus.  (all props will be provided by Liberty Yoga, however, if you have your own blocks, belts, blankets, you may bring them with you). The instruction you will receive surpasses any photo or video presentation that you may have seen.  The aim of learning how to safely practice this most valuable asana and its variations using chairs and walls as props will reveal the way in which every student can learn how to extend and align the spine while inverted.  Inversions begin with preparatory poses that will facilitate strength & flexibility for even the beginner.  If you have questions or concerns you may contact Kathleen by phone or e-mail:  (302)656-6983   /  verynearyoga@ yahoo.com.

 Yogi of the Month
Sarah Mester

Yoga always looked interesting to me.  Growing up, I enjoyed taking ballet lessons and yoga had a natural appeal to me.  It seemed so graceful and peaceful.  It wasn't until college that I took my first yoga class.  My roommate invited me to a class and I was hooked!  I went to classes at school and tried to learn a lot on my own.  After college I began working full-time and taking graduate classes.  I tried to keep up with yoga on my own, but I didn't do a very good job with it.  Eventually, my husband and I began rock climbing and joined a local rock gym.  The gym offered yoga.  For the first time, yoga became something I did routinely.  I began to see my progress after several weeks and months.  I kept up with yoga until I had my first son and then started taking lessons at different studios on and off.  After my youngest was born, I found GEM studios.  My experience with Christine was different from my past experiences.  Vinyasa felt like a whole-body workout-aerobic and yet still mindful and relaxing.   The other yogis were a welcoming community as well.  I followed them to Liberty and am enjoying the new digs!  Yoga has become an essential part of my life.  With 2 young children and a full-time job, it is difficult to find time for everything.  Each week I look forward to yoga class and a bike ride (I love mountain biking!).  My husband realizes how important these activities are to me and he graciously watches our boys.  I love that in yoga, it truly is the journey and not the destination that matters.  Along the way you learn new techniques, tap into new energy, and make friends.  I've found that I need yoga in my life to feel balanced and connected.  I'm so grateful for our yogi community and all the teachers at Liberty.  Thanks for all that you do!

So, I was watching "Ellen", my favorite show, and she had Arrianna Huffington on. You know, the woman who started The Huffington Post! Arianna told her story of her wake up call! She was working so hard and stressing out and fell over from exhaustion and broke her cheekbone. She refocused on what it means to be successful. Success is not about power and money (the first 2 metrics) but about being present. Her mother always said "Don't miss the moment". Arianna spoke of the judgmental voices in our heads that is like the annoying roommate who puts us down and tells us we are not good enough. She said it is time to evict that obnoxious roommate in our heads and speak kindly to ourselves.
How can we move towards success?
Here are some of the steps:
* Get more sleep! Add 30 minutes of sleep
a day until you are up to 7-9 hours
* Spend 5 minutes a day meditating! Don't
worry about the thoughts. Just sit.
* Forgive someone / Forgive yourself
* Appreciate & Add silence in your day
(listen to the bird. Appreciate quiet)
* Give!! The shortcut to happiness
