What is Ayurveda?
The simple answer is that Ayurveda is a set of healing techniques that come from ancient India. We can learn some things about ourselves using these techniques and possibly find some ways to help ourselves to feel more relaxed and balanced in life. We have a workshop coming with specially trained Ayurvedic yoga teacher - Anna Dorwart. She'll be here on
Saturday, November 25th to teach a detailed Ayuveda workshop! Start learning now:

Dosha Quiz
Christine recently found this information on Indian medicine. I've taken many dosha quizzes over the years and this one - well - all I can say is WOW! It's so much better than any dosha quiz I've taken that I do strongly recommend it! - Erin

New Yoga Class:
It's Yoga for
Health and Healing
will be every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10am-11:30am
We will use props including a chair for some classes. The last 30 minutes will be restorative. Those students who cannot get up and down off of the floor will be given other options. One of the goals is to strengthen the legs of those who have difficulty with mobility. We feel confident that with time and commitment all students will be able to get up and down from the floor at least once during class.
What to expect: Muscle strength, improved flexibility, twisting for organ health and deep core activation, balance improvement, complex movements, relaxation and healing. Also, expect to make friends, make silly noises, count in foreign languages, do breathing exercises, sing and more.
Both Erin and Shelley teach these classes and are committed to offering loving and healing yoga classes for students in special populations who need extra attention or help in certain areas. While students at all levels will enjoy the fun loving spirit of these classes and learn anatomy and alignment principles, they are specifically designed to help with health and healing.

Book of the Month:
We're trying something new this month. The book we've selected, we haven't read yet. Would you like to read it and meet up to discuss it? Our lunch meeting and
location
is to be announced but would be a weekday at noon. To join in, email Erin at [email protected].
The Book Is:
Born to Run:
A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen
by Christopher McDougall

Pose of the month:
Lunge Pose
Anjaneyasana
This month we will focus on Lunge pose.
From a forward fold, bend your knees and inhale, stepping one leg back behind you toward the back of your mat. The ball of the foot should be on the floor and the hip should continue to face forward. The heel is over the center of the foot and the leg is straight. This pose takes many forms (upright torso, folded forward torso, and with knee on the floor). In whatever form you are doing, the groins stretch and the front thigh is strengthened. Keep a neutral spine and make sure you support your movements with the muscles of the abdomen - a light contraction across the front of the lower abdomen supports the pelvis and low back in this posture.
