After one of our third grade sessions, Kayla told our education coordinator in private after class about her own abuse. Part of Kayla's family was angry at her for telling her story, but Kayla was so brave.
Kayla came to Blue Sky Bridge and talked to one of our forensic interviewers. Her uncle was arrested and convicted.
This was really hard for Kayla as some of her family members blamed her for the situation and the family strife. She couldn't even celebrate her birthday with her extended family.
But at Kayla's final session in the classroom, she told our education coordinator, Robin, "I know this isn't my fault. I counted and you said it seven times. Seven times you said it's not my fault, and it is not my fault."
Kayla left that day with confidence that she had done the right thing in talking to a trusted adult. Her healing journey is now beginning thanks to supporters like you.
This is a story that isn't uncommon for us to hear, but we want to make sure that you know about it... because you are a very important part of the story.
The support you give to Blue Sky Bridge helps kids like Kayla end the abuse and move beyond it.
