It's SENIOR Night at tonight's football game! The football players will be introduced between the Freshman and Varsity Game. Cheerleaders and Band will be introduced at half time.

8th graders and their parents are welcome to join us at the tailgate!

Special Guest: Tiler Peck

On Wednesday, November 6th, Ms. Tiler Peck, sister of Myka Peck, was our special guest speaker. Tiler is a principal dancer with the New York City Ballet and gave an inspirational talk to the students about how hard work can make dreams come true. After her talk, the Garces Dance Room was dedicated to the Peck Family and blessed by Msgr. Stephen Frost. 



Habitat for Humanity
The Pope Francis Build
$20 "Free Dress" Pass
Garces is going to help build a home for a local family as part of the Pope Francis Build project.  The local family is the Salazar's who are members of Christ the King parish.  To raise needed money to help fund the project, students are encouraged to pay $20 next week for a "Dress Pass" that will allow them to wear jeans, Uggs, and sweats to school. 
 
Movember at Garces
$20 "No Shave" Pass

In support of bringing awareness to men's health issues, the boys will have the option of purchasing a "No Shave" pass for $20.  The passes will be sold next week and will be good through November 20th. All proceeds will go towards the Habitat for Humanity build. The student deemed to have the "best facial hair" will win two tickets to the Sadie's Hawkins Dance.
 
Boys Water Polo - League Champs!

Congratulations to the Boys Water Polo team!  They went undefeated in league play and are the EYL League Champions!  Good luck in the Valley Play-Off Boys! Team members are:  Mason Smith, John Starkey, Patrick Burke, Carter Kerwin, Chaz Harker, Lee Begin, Andrew Martinez, Hutton Stewart, and William Cross.
Teen Government Day

Spanish National Honor Society

Mrs. Gillam had the pleasure of inducting her first group of students, at Garces, who have been honorably selected to be a part of a club that recognizes academic achievement. The Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (SHH) is an honor society for high school students enrolled in Spanish and  and is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP).  The purpose of the society is to recognize high achievement of high school students in the Spanish language and to promote a continuing interest in Hispanic studies.  Club members are:  Irene Cruz, Thomas Demler, Adrienne Ducato, Spencer Garza, Emma Goulart, Mariana Iturry, Danielle Lacayo, Claudia Millar, Ali McCullum, Emily McMurtrey, Jack Minor, Sabrina Ortiz, Megan Puget, Esperanza Rivera, Jessica Taylor, Tommy Toretta, Emily Urner, Kristen Vibal, Blaire Williams, and Damian Wimberly 
Jockey Club Honorees

The Bakersfield Jockey Club honored three Garces Rams on Monday, November 2nd, for being outstanding student athletes in their sport.  They were Jordyn Pavletich for Girls Water Polo, Chaz Harker for Boys Water Polo, and Anastasia Drulias for Girls Tennis.

Ford Dimension Representative

Garces senior, Garrett Andrew, was selected as a Ford Dimension student. He will serve on the Ford Dimension Board this school year and work on a community based service project.

Garces GirlsTennis player, Anastasia Drulias, qualified for Singles in Girls Tennis for the CIF Central Section. She will play her first match Friday, November 6th. Finals are Saturday, November 7th. 
Good Luck Braden Rogers

On Saturday, November 7th, Garces freshman Braden Rogers will be racing car #29 in the Veteran's Day Classic at the Kern County Race Park.  
Senior Night - Volleyball

Congratulations Garces Musician Johann Palo

Garces Senior Johann Palo has been selected to perform a clarinet solo for the Bakersfield Youth Symphony Concert. The concert will be on Sunday, November 15th at 4 PM at Highland High School.  
Garces Players to perform FLIP

This year's fall play will be FLIP and will be performed Wednesday, November 18th at 4 PM and & PM and on Thursday, November 19th at 4 PM and 7 PM.  All performances will be in Monsignor Leddy Hall.   
Big Week for Football

Last week, the football team recorded the school's first football victory in the Power League by defeating Frontier and three of the players were nominated for three different awards: Brandon Villalobos for KGET's FFX Player of the Week, Matt Sanders for Hometown Sports U.S. Army All-Star Arena Bowl, and Isaiah Martin for Central Valley Football Player of the Week.

Welcome to Fall!  Despite the term, "fall back," we, at Garces, are continuing to move forward with the following exciting dates and deadlines.
 
November 7th - SAT
Students must bring their Admission Tickets. They can print them by logging in to My SAT and clicking Print Admission Ticket
 
3RD PROGRESS REPORT   
Student grades will be posted and ready for viewing on Monday, November 16, 2015. To view your student's grades, log into Net Classroom, click on your (students Name) grades in the green menu bar. Click Report Cards. GPA's are not calculated for Progress Reports. They are available on first and second semester grade reports.  Please contact your student's instructor for questions and concerns regarding their progress.
 
1ST SEMESTER SENIOR FINALS  
Seniors who have a grade of  93% or above in their classes, by Dec.7, 2015, may choose to opt out of their final exam. AP instructors may require the final exam. Also, if a student has recently transferred into a class, the teacher may elect to have the student sit for the final.
 
COLLABORATION
Collaboration is available to all our students on White Days, following the final bell at 1:30 PM. CSF Peer Tutoring is available on Green Days, in rooms 7 and 72, following the final bell at 3:00 PM.  If your student is having difficulty in any of their classes, please ask that they attend collaboration. We make every effort to provide additional support to our students so that they may continue to be academically successful.

Please continue to pray for Garces sophomore Joshua Thai and his family.  We pray he has a full and complete recovery and is back at Garces soon.

Please continue to pray for Ben as he recovers from surgery due to an injury he sustained in the football game against Frontier.

Mr. Dees' father, who is also Ms. Dees' grandfather, is recovering from surgery. Please keep the Dees family in your prayers. 

School Photo Make Up Day - November 10

Christian Hall Photography has scheduled a make up day for students who still need to get their photo taken for their Garces Student ID Card and Yearbook photo.   
 
Students can go to Christian Hall's studio on Tuesday, November 10 between 3:30 and 5:30.

Girls Golf Update

Congratulations to our Girls Golfers who represented Garces at the CIF Central Section Girls Golf Championship.  While their scores did not qualify them to move onto the state championship - we are very proud of them and how well they represented Garces and themselves at the Valley tournament. The girls scores were: Allie Crawley 92, Sydney Crawley 92, Claire Cornejo 93 and Grace Cornejo 104.
