What's New at the ASP!
The Total Skywatcher's Manual is now available!

The ASP is proud to announce the release of
The Total Skywatcher's Manual, the first book on skywatching authored by the ASP in its 126-year history. Written by ASP Executive Director Linda Shore, ASP Communication Specialist David Prosper, and ASP Astronomy Educator Vivian White, this family-friendly quintessential guide will help you choose the best telescope, identify constellations and objects in the night sky, search for extraterrestrial phenomena, plan star parties, capture beautiful space imagery and much more.

The Total Skywatcher's Manual is published by Weldon Owen, which specializes in beautiful books that break down complex skills so anyone can learn them, while also entertaining and inspiring the reader. You can order your copy of The Total Skywatcher's Manual from Amazon.com (be sure to leave a review!) or you can order a signed edition from the ASP's AstroShop.

Night Sky Network and My Sky Tonight

Night Sky Network: Over 3 million people reached for the stars through the Night Sky Network's outreach events and activities. In early 2015, the Network hit the 30,000 event mark and are now at 30,032 events logged, reaching 3,217,450 people! Read more here.

My Sky Tonight: Last spring, twenty-four educators from
museums, parks, and discovery centers across the country participated in the ASPĀ¹s workshop showcasing the latest iteration of the My Sky Tonight toolkit of activities to engage children ages 3 to 5 year in the practices of astronomy. Key to working with this age is remembering that play is learning, so activities include making craters, walking on the moon, and modeling shadows in a variety of activities. Through the end of June, these participants were field testers who actively gave us feedback on how they have adapted the activities for use in their facilities. Visit the website for more information about the Winter 2016 workshop and to receive notifications about future opportunities.
