IN THIS ISSUE:
MAYOR'S MESSAGE

I hope you were able to join us yesterday for Sea Isle City's annual Veterans Day Ceremony.  It is always a privilege to honor the men and women who fought to maintain America's freedom and independence - they truly are the backbone of our nation. My thanks go to everyone who attended the ceremony, especially the South Shore Stitchers, who presented "Quilts of Honor" to a group of local veterans.  Special thanks also go to First Bank of Sea Isle City for bringing the Ocean City Marching Band to our Veterans Day Ceremony, and Commander Chick Haines and the other members of VFW Post 1963 for their ongoing support of our community.

As you may have heard, the Townsends Inlet Bridge will once again be closed, for repairs to the roadway on Avalon's side, beginning 6:00 a.m. on Monday, November 16.  I know everyone is tired of bridge closures, but I do have some good news to report regarding the T. I. Bridge... << READ MORE >>

CITY COUNCIL'S MESSAGE

During the November 10 City Council meeting, Business Administrator George Savastano updated Council on a pending streetscape project as well as the next phase of construction that will close the Townsend Inlet Bridge this winter. On a related note, at Council's request the County Engineer is considering implementing a notification system to alert the public whenever the T. I. Bridge is temporarily closed due to sea spray and wave over-wash on the Avalon side of the bridge. Council is hopeful that the notification system (which might include electronic signs being posted at strategic locations) will be implemented by the time the bridge re-opens in February 2016.

Also on November 10, the Consent Agenda was unanimously approved by Council with no comments from the public.

During the New Business portion of the November 10 meeting, there was a discussion regarding the hours of the day that contractors are permitted to demolish homes, drive piles, and construct buildings (all of which create noise and occasionally vibrations)...

MASTER PLAN RE-EXAMINATION

The Re-Examination Continues

With completion of the Planning Board's Master Plan Survey, which was taken by more than 3600 people, and a very productive Master Plan Workshop on October 24, a significant portion of the process of collecting feedback from the public has been completed.  The Planning Board is now scheduling public meetings to review the information compiled for each category in the re-examination (Land Use, Commercial Density & Size of Residential Structures; Storm Resiliency Planning & Infrastructure; Parking, Bicycle Traffic & Traffic Circulation; Economic Development; and Parks & Recreation).  The first category to be reviewed is Land Use.  Review of Land Use comments and recommendations that have been gathered from the public will begin during the November 16 Planning Board Meeting at 7:00 p.m. in City Hall.  Once the Planning Board completes their review of Land Use recommendations, they will move onto the remaining categories until all five categories are thoroughly explored (the order of which will be determined as the process continues).  Dates and times that the other categories will be reviewed will be included in future newsletters.

T. I. BRIDGE CLOSURES

The Bridge Will Soon Close,
Please Plan Accordingly

The Townsend Inlet Bridge (connecting Sea Isle City and Avalon) will soon close for repairs and will re-open in 2016.   Work at the south abutment to the bridge requires the roadway to be closed because the narrow width of the bridge makes it impossible to maintain traffic. The current schedule is to close the bridge from November 16 through February 11, 2016 (bridge to be opened for Polar Bear Plunge weekend). The contractor plans to work double shifts during this period of time in order to substantially complete the entire project. Following Polar Bear Plunge weekend, the roadway will remain open, with the possibility of one lane closures for the contractor to complete any required work. In any event, all work will be completed and the roadway fully open by March 15, 2016. By proceeding in the above manner, the project will be able to be completed in one winter season, as opposed to the previous plan which would have required two seasons to complete.

For additional information about the T. I. Bridge, please read the Project Update section above.

FIRE HYDRANT FLUSHING

Regular Maintenance
Ensures Performance

Throughout the month of November, Sea Isle City's Water Department will be flushing-out hydrants all over town. Annual hydrant flushing is required by State law and ensures that hydrant systems are functioning properly (thus providing adequate water flow when needed). Residents can expect very little disruption in their water service - if any.  However, low water pressure and possible water discoloration may occur.  In the event of discoloration, simply allow water to run from the tap for a short while until clear. For additional info, phone 609-263-6000 (ext. 11) or email:
