Kauai Travelers
Can Save Lives!

Are you or someone you know flying Alaska Air direct from Lihue, Kauai, to Seattle/Seatac? Then you can help us save lives! The Kauai shelter is often filled to capacity, and is working with KHS to save more pets through its Aloha Escorts program. So far KHS has saved 135 at-risk pets through this great program, but we want to help even more! Travelers on direct flights can "escort" animals for transfer at no charge to the traveler or shelters, and it's so easy! The Kauai shelter meets you at the airport to check in the pet(s) when your flight departs, and a KHS volunteer meets you at luggage claim to pick up the pet(s) when your flight arrives. All arrangements go through the Kauai shelter, so for more info or to help, please visit this site.

Mega Match - Success!
Mega Match was a huge success as we adopted out 213 animals in three days. A BIG THANK YOU to our community partners who donated food and drinks to keep our hardworking staff and volunteers working during the extended hours! Thank you, Silverdale Safeway, Bucklin Hill Starbucks and Round Table Pizza for their donations!

#GivingTuesday

Tis' the season to celebrate and encourage giving! This December 1st, consider making a donation to Kitsap Humane Society as part of  #GivingTuesday , a global movement to encourage and amplify small acts of kindness. We know one donation may not change the world by itself, but it will change the world for one animal. Help us to continue to make real change in our community.
 A Gem of an Event

Do you love animals and the finer things in life? Jewelry designer and Kitsap Humane Society events volunteer Robin Callahan will be hosting a special opening reception featuring her amazing colored gem collection at Peter Ross Jewelry on Bainbridge Island. Volunteer Spotlight
Kimberly Cizek Allen

A love for animals has been a theme throughout Kimberly Cizek Allen's life.  Whether it's pet sitting for neighbors, clipping dog and cat toenails for friends and family members, adopting a vegetarian lifestyle three years ago, volunteering for PAWS of Bremerton as a teenager, or most recently fostering kittens for the Kitsap Humane Society, the welfare of animals is never far from Kim's mind. Kim has been involved with the Kitsap Humane Society since May of this year, fostering three litters of kittens, and helping at various special events including PetsWALK, Animal Krackers, Mega Match and more.

"Working with KHS has been so rewarding," she says. "Animals enrich my life every day, and helping others find that same human-animal connection is such a treat."

Kimberly lives in Bremerton with her husband Jesse. You'll often find her walking the neighborhood with their dogs, Duke and Bella. She also shares her hom e with Scar-Face the chicken, a resident cat Izzy and a rotating batch of kittens. When not volunteering with KHS or working as a registered nurse, Kim spends her time training for marathons, working with her husband on their home business and enjoying the company of friends and family.
Adorable Adoptable
A Golden Girl for
Your Pasture

Mia is looking for a hospice home! The gorgeous white and brown mare, possibly a Paint-Arab mix, with striking blue eyes and stunning coloring is 25 years old. Years of neglect have affected her quality of life and made her a special case who will need extra TLC during her golden years. Mia was rescued by KHS Animal Control following a cruelty complaint.

She was found severely underweight, with severe degenerative joint disease in her front knees, and teeth and hooves in very poor condition. Mia's knee joint appears to be fused due to long-term lack of mobility and an old injury. She is unable to lay down and moves slowly, but she still loves to explore the pasture here at the shelter and can toodle around at her own pace just fine!

Mia is a friendly girl who can get cranky if her sore joints are handled too much, or if you're keeping her from her dinner. She's a social butterfly who likes to greet all new friends. In addition to providing her with ongoing vet and farrier care, Mia's new home will need to have a nice-sized pasture so her poor legs can stretch and she can be segregated from other horses or slowly integrated with friendly horses at her own speed. Mia is available for adoption to pre-screened applicants by appointment only. To learn more about Mia or apply to adopt Mia, please e-mail Natalie Smith at [email protected].
