2015: A Year Of Major M&A

At the close of the first quarter, we identified a few major trends for the year: increased M&A, a gradual if unpredictable macroeconomic recovery, and the continued ascendancy of the US dollar against other currencies. In our latest martinwolf IT Index report, we look at today's major trends-and what's changed since earlier this year.

The strong trend of near-record M&A volume has accelerated, with M&A volume in the second quarter up almost 35 percent year over year to $1.33 trillion, just shy of the record $1.41 trillion seen in the second quarter of 2007. From IT Services to IT Supply Chain, transactions in the past three months have exemplified the trends and shifts that have defined the IT industry.

The report analyzes these transactions, as well as discusses ongoing macro trends to watch out for in the second half of 2015. These trends include the strong dollar, which continues to artificially depress earnings, volatility stemming from the Greek debt situation, and the what-goes-up-must-come-down Chinese market.

As always, our quarterly martinwolf IT Index report highlights the current state of four sectors: IT Services & BPO, IT Supply Chain, Software, and SaaS. The IT Services sector is further broken out into geography, specifically analyzing the Indian and Chinese markets.
