Westland Announces Defective Garbage Toter Recall

(Westland, MI) - Mayor William R. Wild advises that Toter, LLC, the company from whom the City purchased over 25,000 black garbage toters will be replacing all carts that are found to be defective.  Citing poor resin that did not meet company quality control standards, Toter will replace the defective toters, which came with a 10 year warranty, at no charge to the City or residents.  The new toters are identifiable with an "R" serial number.

The new toters are to begin arriving in the City within two weeks.  Residents are advised to contact the Department of Public Service at 734.728.1770 if they have a defective toter.  The DPS will deliver the new toters to those who received defective ones.

"I'm pleased to report that Toter, LLC is taking responsibility for the defective toters and once the problem was identified moved quickly to resolve this issue;" commented Mayor Wild.

The original toters were delivered to residents in late summer 2014 as part of a multi-year Mission Green initiative aimed at encouraging recycling, reducing waste and providing a more visually appealing method for disposing of household waste and recyclables.
