Thanks for the Support!

As the end of the 2014-2015 school year comes to a close, the Underwood GT Magnet Foundation would like to thank the Underwood community for their continued support.  The Foundation's efforts strive to maintain the excellence of our school program by supporting initiatives that:  recruit and retain quality teachers, enable and bolster rich instructional programming, and sustain the educational environment.  The fall fundraising campaign and proceeds from the recent Spring Gala will provide the administration the ability to make decisions for the 2015-2016 school year to ensure Underwood continues to be a "small school with big talent."

FUNDRAISING SUMMARY

Like last year, the board will be reviewing administration's requests and will vote on initial usage of funds over the coming weeks.  Through your generous support we have exceeded last years funding raise at over $130,000 in total dollars.  This includes our fall fundraising campaign and our successful "Night of A Thousand Stars".

As in past years, there are multiple factors to consider when making funding decisions. The board and administration's first commitment is to fund any continued reduction in the school system program funding for Underwood and then will weigh any dollars remaining to maximize the impact of your contributions to the benefit of all children and retain Underwood's standard of excellence. The Board will publish a final report on the Foundation's website for FY 2015 in the Fall once final funding decisions are determined.

SPRING GALA SUCCESS!

Our "Night of a Thousand Stars" event held on May 30th was another tremendous success and a strong testament to the parental and community support of our great school. It would not have been possible without our generous sponsors.

Attendees enjoyed a fun-filled evening of delectable food, cocktails, music, photos and a successful live and silent auction. If you have not already, any purchased items can be picked up in the main office at Underwood. If you are interested in viewing the items without bids, take advantage of this great discounted FIRE SALE. View the entertaining photo booth digital stream here.

During the event, attendees had the opportunity to hear from Rhonda Con nor , who was selected for the highly competitive and prestigious Kenan Fellow

Teacher Internship.  This opportunity has only been offered to 40 teachers around North Carolina since its inception a few years ago.  Through the course of a six-week internship with Underwriter's Laboratory (UL) in RTP, Rhonda will work in their lab and develop educational resources for Underwood. She will return to Underwood in the fall with cutting-edge teaching strategies, new ideas for community engagement and real-world opportunities for all students at Underwood for the 2015-2016 school year.  We are still raising money for this endeavor, click here to donate.

NEWEST ALUMNI

On Monday, June 8th, the Underwood Foundation welcomed the 5th grade graduates as the newest alumni members of the Foundation.  With each year that passes, we are looking forward to connecting with more Underwood families, community members and alumni that ultimately all come together to support our beloved school.

Thank you again for all you do and your continued, consistent and generous support of Underwood Elementary.
