SUSTAINABILITY
Photography Contest - 'Explore Monteverde'  
 
This contest is intended to expose the cultural and natural diversity of the tourist areas in Monteverde. With this in mind, there has been created four different categories:
  1. Nature: this category fits any picture of flora and/or fauna.
  2. Culture: descriptive photographs of cultural values and people of Monteverde.
  3. Landscape: "open" photos of scenic landscapes in Monteverde.
  4. Turist Activities: photos of tourist activities in the area.
If you want to join this competition, please register and sign the established rules of the contest on http://exploremonteverde.com/concurso/.

The competition will be made by voting through the Facebook social network using the hashtag  #exploremonteverde.
The photograph reception will be from July 20 to August 31, 2015. They will indicate the date the photographs will move to the voting process.
Day of the Lady of the Angels - August 2 
 

Our Lady of the Angels was declared patron saint of Costa Rica and protector of the Americas by Pope John Paul II.

The devotion to Our Lady of the Angels took Ticos typical features, mixing Christian-European tradition with elements of the indigenous and black culture .

The celebration of Our Lady of the Angels is performed in the city of Cartago, Costa Rica. Since the late nineteenth century there is a pilgrimage to the shrine every August 2 to the Basilica of the Angels.

National Parks Day - August 24
 

The celebration of National Parks in our country takes place on August 24 of each year. This date was established in late 1984 when President Luis Alberto Monge ratified by a law of the Republic, the decrees of the creation of national parks. Through Law No. 6794 the protection of these areas is finally consolidated.

We take
this day to renew our commitment to take action and to emphasize the need to preserve and to use properly the forests, wetlands and wildlife that Costa Rica has
TIP OF THE AREA
Schedule for Route 606 Guacimal - Santa Elena
 
The MONTEVERDE ROAD COMISSION announced that due to the type of work being done in the Guacimal - Santa Elena Road, total closures are not required, so the closures schedule program is suspended until further notice.

There will be a regulated pass all day, as required for the machinery work. Take advantage of this good news and come visit Monteverde!!!

XI Latin American Congress of Private Reserves
November 8-14
 
The Costa Rican Network of Natural Reserves (Red Costarricense de Reservas Naturales), invites you to participate in the XI Latin American Congress of Private Reserves, which will be held from November 08th to November 14th.

This itinerant Congress will visit San Jose (the capital of Costa Rica), Sarapiqui (northern plains, tropical rainforest), will pass through La Fortuna (Arenal Volcano), Monteverde (cloud forest and continental divide) and Punta Leona (Central Pacific Forest transition between tropical dry forests of northwestern and southern rainforests, and white sand beaches with waters ranging between
26°C and 28°C).
