Doheny Village Plan Community Open House
On August 13 from 5PM - 7PM at Capo Beach Church, the City of Dana Point is holding a community open house for all those interested in the progress of the Doheny Village Plan.

The City has engaged the firm of Opticos Design, Inc. to assist in finalizing the land use plan and developing a new zoning code to guide future development in the area. The open house is intended to introduce Opticos to the community, provide an introduction to the type of zoning code intended for the area (form based code), and identify the next stages leading toward completion of the Plan.

The City and Opticos will return September 8-12 for an intensive, 4-1/2 day design charrette. Community members and interested stakeholders will be encouraged to attend the open design studio to review the work being done by Opticos and provide valuable feedback. The effort concludes on September 12 at 10:00 am where Opticos will share their planning work leading to the actual creation of the new code.

Opticos Design, Inc. is at the forefront of creating form-based codes that encourage the development of buildings and properties to provide for a walking village environment. They blend the best from the past with the innovative ideas from the present to produce "contextually rich, architecturally sound and aesthetically pleasing results."

For more information on the Doheny Village Plan, or to be updated on community meetings, please contact Cindy Nelson, Economic Development Manager at 949.248.3519 or by email.
Businesses Sought to Participate in
Arts & Humanities Month in Dana Point

In celebration, the City would like to highlight all cultural activities taking place during October 2015: this includes the performing and visual arts, culinary arts, history, literature and architecture. Everything arts and humanities.

In order to make the celebration a success, the City is requesting all individuals, groups and businesses to provide us the information to list on an event calendar that will be posted online, in-print and on the Cox Cable Channel.

It is easy to participate. Simply e-mail your information to the Community Services Department at [email protected] with the activity you are planning in the Month of October. It is the City's intent to showcase your event and give maximum publicity. This can be an existing activity or a new event that you are planning in October. The City would not be a sponsor or co-sponsor of your particular activity but would use our resources to help promote the event.

The Arts are critical to our City's growth and prosperity. The Arts and Humanities provide important opportunities for our young and young at heart to unleash their creativity and reach for new heights. This month, we pay tribute to the tremendous power of the Arts and Humanities to bring us together and expose us to new ideas that make us think and feel fulfilled. As we carry forward with this proud national tradition, let us celebrate!

Please join the City in celebration of Arts and Humanities Month this October and help promote the fantastic array of cultural activities in our Community.
