Program T itle:  Presidential Fireside Chat - 2015 and Beyond

Summary: Our December program will include remarks and Q&A from both Lyn Downing as the outgoing president and Katherine  Curtis as the incoming president.

Community Support: As you may recall from our October meeting, we drew names allowing our membership the opportunity to support another non-profit in our community at our December luncheon.  AFP member Rachel Denny's name was selected in the drawing and she has selected Southwestern Adventist University as this year's recipient.  Rachel works in their Office of University Advancement as a Development Officer.  Rachel has shared with us some areas of greatest need.  We encourage each of you to celebrate the spirit of giving with us and consider bringing an item from the list or even making a cash donation.

Southwestern Adventist University is the only four-year degree granting university in Johnson County, the 25th most populous county in Texas. U.S News and World Report just released their most recent analysis of higher education that ranks Southwestern Adventist University as the 22nd best of the western region colleges. Southwestern Adventist University offers a high-quality education centered around three major initiatives: build knowledge, increase faith and providing service. They are proud to be known as a Hispanic serving institution in addition to serving many first-generation students and a high population of students from low income households.  Below is a list of items their students frequently need but often aren't able to afford.
The items collected will be distributed to our students in need by our Dean of Students and our Residence Hall Deans.
  • Laundry soap
  • Dryer sheets
  • Fabric softener
  • Shampoo
  • Conditioner
  • Deodorant
  • Gloves/beanies (warm hats)
  • Jackets
  • A few students need comforters and sheets
  • Non-perishable food (easy mac, Ramen, canned soups, etc.)
**Parking Information **
You will be given a discount on the
General Club Garage Parking Rates  if you bring your parking garage ticket to the luncheon registration desk to get stamped. This stamp will reduce your parking fee to   $3.00 for the luncheon.

There is   additional parking available at The Fort Worth Club "P1" Off-Site Parking Lot , located on the corner of 6th Street and Lamar Street. In the event that there is not an attendant at the P1 lot,  the "code" that you would need to enter would be #139,   this will give you the discount.

President's Message

DECEMBER  2015

Happy Holidays everyone. Giving thanks is high on our to-do lists and taking time to prepare for the many celebrations of the season takes a toll on our time management skills.  Balancing the demands of our work life (must meet end of year goals) as well as devoting time to our families and friends is never harder than at year end. But, we always find a way, don't we?

National Philanthropy Day® Celebration -

I am especially thankful to this year's co-chairs, Nancy Jeter and Karen Derrick, who along with a wonderful committee of AFP volunteers produced a super National Philanthropy Day (NPD) event. We were thrilled to have a sold-out event again this year.  Cendera Center went over the top to provide a welcom ing atmosphere for our guests. We really enjoyed our gracious emcee, John Robinson, who guided the awards program.  He added his own special "flare" to the event and kept everyone thoroughly engaged. It was a wonderful day of celebration.

Be The Cause -

Please consider this a final ASK for your participation in the
Be The Cause (BTC) campaign.  The AFP Foundation for Philanthropy conducts the Be the Cause campaign - an annual appeal to generate resource to fund AFP strategic initiatives that advance ethical and effective fundraising.  Each chapter has a goal based on membership size and previous participation and is charged with promoting the BTC to the members.  Our chapter's goal is $1,875 and once we reach that amount, we will receive 25% back for local use.  CLICK HERE for a pledge form you can send by mail or fax, or you may give on here at http://afpfoundation.org/.  Click on the Make A Gift icon at the top right of the page.  Be sure to log in with your membership information so the Fort Worth Chapter will receive credit.

Looking Ahead to 2016 -

Your board of directors is hard at work finalizing a 2016 chapter budget, and working on programming for the next year.  Katherine Curtis is anxiously awaiting her adventure as President, while I am looking forward to the role of Immediate Past-President.  It's been a wonderful two years, and I know the next two will be equally as exciting.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the December 14th program at the Fort Worth Club.  Trisha Dunbar and her team have put together what promises to be a very informative program, and --REMEMBER-- we are giving back to Southwestern Adventist University at this meeting.  It will be an opportunity for gift giving to a wonderful organization.  Look for details above in the program section of our newsletter.
