Most of you know the significance of writing Denton is back and need read no further except to know my porch isn't open for drop-offs, yet.

For those who don't know, Denton is a program that allows shipments of humanitarian aid to be shipped on military aircraft on a space availability basis for free. Someone decided a year ago to no longer accept shipments to Afghanistan through the program. No one took credit for making the decision and no one explained why the decision was made. Whatever the cause, the powers that be have decided to allow shipments to Afghanistan again!
I learned about this development last Friday, and was able to confirm that it's true this morning.

Yes, there will be a packing party and we will be able to pack and ship all the things many of you have been holding onto for months. Porch privileges will be reinstated someday.  Porch privileges allow people who receive our newsletter to drop things off on my porch. Don't forget, porch privileges are non transferable and can't be shared with friends who don't receive our newsletter.  Why? I still have computers in my hallway, and bags of clothing, boxes, knitted hats, solar cookers, and stuff in my garage. My garage doesn't yet runneth over, but it's close.

That's all for now except to emphasize how important reinstatement of the program is. Our first shipment was less than 6,000 pounds. Our last shipment in November 2014 was 66,000 pounds and required two 40 foot containers to transport to Travis Air Force base.  Needless to say I'm a little concerned about the size of the next one.
