Worship with us this Sunday!

It's the third Sunday of Advent - Joy! As with all of the gifts of Advent, Joy is available to us. We need to open ourselves up to it so we can receive it, bathe in it and share it with others.

We are in for real treats this Sunday morning...
Please join us for worship!

Traditional Worship at 9:30am is our annual Lessons & Carols service. The Choir will share a variety of pieces which will be interspersed with congregational carols and scriptures that share the full story of Jesus - from the Hebrew Scriptures and the Gospels. This is one of the many highlights of Advent. [Enter the sanctuary by 9:20am so you can enjoy the strings and organ prelude music.]

Informal Worship at 11:00am.* We will begin our worship with some singing and lighting of the Advent Candles... which will open up to our annual Christmas Pageant. This year's play has been written by our own Blake Lyons. Don't miss this - it will be meaningful and memorable.

*Our Informal Worship Team is asking 11:00am people to bring a photo/magazine clip of someone smiling. As you enter the sanctuary, please post your piece on the board at the front. There will be tape there to use. Please feel free to leave your piece or bring it home with you after the service.
We continue to receive our 2 nd  Mile Advent financial gifts to support the missions and ministries of

R ea d ou r
which focuse s on aging.

Meanwhile on the other side of the stage, a lad in a shepherd's outfit is on a cell phone. He is calling the inn to make a reservation.

Small Steps to Make A Difference by Mark Scandrette

If you do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing finger and malicious talk, and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday. --Isaiah 58: 2-10

If I spend fifteen minutes on Facebook, I see thirty articles that break my heart. Another mass shooting. Race related violence. Prejudice. Fear. Injustice. Politicians or pundits hypocritically spouting off about poverty or the refugee crisis. I can sign the petition or spread awareness, but sometimes I wonder why I spend so much time, talk and emotional energy on what I have little or no control over- especially when there are small steps I can take that would make a difference.

With every dollar we spend we are casting a vote in favor or against the needs of the hungry and oppressed. I can patronize minority and immigrant businesses. I can put my money in a bank that invests in small local businesses rather than the for profit prison system. I can make sure I'm buying fair trade and slave free coffee and chocolate. I can take one less car trip or eat one less ecologically expensive meat protein meal. Knowing that your spending choices affect people across the street, around the globe and future generations, make a short list of next steps that you can take to change your habits and practices.
