Rescue Results for February
In February, there were 12  new arrivals.  Of the arrivals, 9 entered TGIE, 2  came off track, and 1 was non-racer that needed to be re-homed but was not an AG dog originally. We also had 9 adoptions.

That makes our year-to-date totals 20 adoptions and 39 rescues (26 to AG and 13 to other groups).
A Warm Thank You

A few months ago, the call went out for coats to help our foster dogs through this chilly winter.  We would like to thank Loree McKinney, Nola Zikkos and Connie Stillwell for their generous (and warm!) donations.  Because of you, our fosters were able to stay cozy while the temperatures dipped lower than we'd like to remember.  Thank you for your kindness!

Our Adoption Story:  Camille

We adopted two wonderful German Shepherds during our 28 years of marriage.  Our last girl, Greta, was referred to as our "dream dog" because of her great personality & beauty.  When she passed, we pursued adoption again.   A greyhound was not even in our thoughts.  An internet adoption search led to reading about the Greys' plight, and personality. Then we thought "why not?...one of these poor hairy babies needs us."  The rescue group in our area did not offer Grey adoption with obedience training & foster care.  Actually, a brief internet inquiry with them stated without a fence we were not eligible to adopt.

We cannot say enough about the positive experience of acquiring our wonderful Grey through your group. Your web site is very professional, making it easy to check out the "fit" of a Grey for our household.  My initial inquiry was returned quickly.  Carol, the foster "mom", was friendly & informative.  Checking our references went quickly.  We had never seen a Grey up close, but before we knew it, we were making an exciting 3 hour trip to Petco to meet our prospective new family member. Again, the foster family was wonderful.  We were also given helpful written information.  Cleo, renamed Camille, quickly won our hearts.  What a sweet, lovable, well-behaved, smart girl.  While there were a couple small hurdles to overcome, such as her dislike of riding in our van, we knew there were bound to be a few adjustments with any dog.  We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of follow up, time, and advice given by your group in solving the problem.

I am happy to say a friend heard our story about your group, and took an additional Grey from you.  Their girl has also become a loved & cherished family member.

Camille brings us joy every day & is so easy to live with.  (I refer to her as my husband's "other woman" because he is so smitten!)    My only regret about your group is that we are not close enough geographically to attend the neat events we see in your newsletter.  Thank you so much for the quality work you do, and giving our life so much pleasure and fulfillment with the addition of Camille.

Affectionately---

Reverse Sneezing
Does your dog reverse sneeze?  Do you know what reverse sneezing is?  If you think your dog might be reverse sneezing, check out this article from Healthy Pets to learn how to identify the symptoms, help your dog, and know when to contact a vet.  I know my dog does this, so it was nice to know that once the episode stops he's fine, but also how to determine that it's gotten serious.

Do You Have a Story or Photo?
Do you have a story to share about your own experiences with greyhounds?  Do you have something you want to see in an upcoming newsletter?  Do you have a picture to share?  Please feel free to contact me at [email protected]

I'd be happy to include pictures of your dog and share your adoption story.  American Greyhound is YOUR group and I'd love to feature your story.
