ScanSource Sets Standard
in South Carolina

When our clients are successful, Craig Gaulden Davis celebrates. One such client, ScanSource, recently announced a $6 million expansion and the creation of 100 new jobs in the Upstate. The company was founded in 1992 and CGD began helping ScanSource develop their facilities six years later. By providing outstanding service and nurturing their employees, ScanSource now has 43 locations in the United States, Canada, Latin America, and Europe.

Recently named one of the best places in South Carolina to work, ScanSource provides a comfortable, yet creative work environment. The Greenville headquarters on Pelham Road currently houses 620 employees in an atmosphere that is practical, creative and collaborative. Their facilities feature non-traditional workspaces. Being concerned with employee health and retention, leadership elected to construct medical facilities on site. Included in the expansion is a fitness center with locker rooms. Personal trainers are on site and available for a nominal fee. Providing attention to their employees’ well-being allows them to better focus on their clients. It is no wonder that their net sales in 2015 were $3.2 billion.

Jenna Makes Plans

CGD has perennially been recognized for outstanding interior design. Our designers are always a critical part of early planning meetings where they help understand the goals of the projects and create inspiring spaces. Our talented designers develop unique environments through color, texture, lighting and furniture.

As the latest addition to our interior design staff, Jenna Hannon gives insightful perspective to design. The Anderson University graduate obtained her master’s degree in Historical Preservation from the University of Georgia. She has proven to be able to offer unique solutions within the context of the client’s vision. Her vision has also proven useful in planning her upcoming spring wedding to Kevin Dees on the South Carolina coast.

CGD Participates in an
Intercommunity Visit

The Greenville Chamber organizes an Intercommunity Leadership Visit every few years. CGD's Ed Zeigler and Stuart Stenger participated this year and joined 80 other community leaders on the trip to Austin, Texas. The primary goal of the three-day visit was to learn about and experience a community that is a decade or two ahead of Greenville as a "future-oriented city imbued with an entrepreneurial spirit that welcomes and nurtures the creative class, business trendsetters and innovators." With more than 150 people moving to Austin every day, challenges have developed. The group was charged with seeing what Greenville could do to position itself to attract and retain additional talent as well as to head off growth issues currently being experienced in Austin. The jam-packed schedule provided much food for thought and the group will reconvene in the coming weeks to apply the new found knowledge here in our city.

We Love It When a Plan
Comes Together

Architects enjoy the creative part of our profession. Meeting with clients to understand their vision and sketching solutions makes us happy. Most people do not understand the amount of time and documentation that it takes to convert a concept into drawings and specifications from which contractors can bid and build the structure. After months of tedious work, going to the construction site and seeing the concept become a reality is almost as enjoyable as developing the initial concept.

At Marrington Middle School in Berkeley County, the client wanted the addition housing their arts program to reflect the vibrancy of the program and add life to their nondescript building. The initial design included metal wall panels and full glass into the lobby. When the budget was tested, the design team had to study alternative materials to execute the design. The design and construction team’s analysis led to a solution using tilt-up concrete. The concrete panels were poured on site, lifted into place and stained to the colors of our choosing. While the project is not yet complete, one can sense how the final product will look — to the delight of the client AND the architect!

CGD Completes Green Wall Installation

At the recently completed first phase renovation of the Pacolet Milliken Enterprises offices in the RiverPlace Office Building in downtown Greenville, Craig Gaulden Davis designed and executed the firm’s first green wall installation. The interior live plantings visually serve as a piece of dramatic artwork. This innovative design approach improves environmental quality indoors by absorbing carbon dioxide and providing fresh oxygen. The system developed by GSky Plant Systems, Inc. places the plants in four-inch pots supported by a patented recycled plastic tray system. The irrigation is on a timer and has been designed to prevent any moisture from dripping from the plants. The 8-foot tall x 16-foot wide green wall was installed by Interior Plantscapes of Greenville. CGD promotes sustainable design that improves the places where we work.
