First Sunday of Advent

Weekly Chimes

Dear Friends and Family, Bob Randall

HAPPY THANKSGIVING! On this feast of Thanksgiving, I am so thankful for all of God's blessings, and particularly thankful that we are all partners in this faithful family of Old Donation.  Every day my heart is warmed by some act of love or service.  THANKSGIVING is more than the name of the day for me, because I know God's goodness through you.

Last night 16 of us showed up to feed the homeless for the Lighthouse Winter Shelter program. Sunday and Tuesday several of us helped at the Mission of the Holy Spirit for worship, lunch and then tutoring.  The Oyster Roast last Saturday ran like clockwork, with a joyful spirit and everyone working together. We had terrific results. On a quick preliminary tally we have something around $19,000 in gross receipts and will probably make between $12-14K.  Every bit of the profit goes for our Outreach efforts in 2016, so your hard work is very valuable for God's kingdom.

Tonight is our ecumenical Thanksgiving worship for Bayside area. We meet at 7:00 at Our Savior Lutheran church on Shore Drive (across from Baylake Retirement Home).  Tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. I will be preaching and celebrating for our Holy Eucharist here at ODEC and reflecting on "worry or thanksgiving?"

Saturday we will give thanks to God for the life and ministry of MeMe Williamson, who lived 98 years of faithful, loving service. She was a wonderful blessing to me... MeMe was an inspiration and a constant reminder that we can CHOOSE to be thankful through good times and hard times and that choice makes all the difference in the quality of our life.

ADVENT - COMING
Sunday is the first Sunday of Advent. NO SUNDAY SCHOOL classes!  But we will have all the makings for your Advent wreath available.  Anytime from 9:15-noon you can assemble your wreath in the Library.

Our theme for preaching in these four Sundays of Advent preparation will be "waiting... a Christian way of life."  We will build our reflections around the traditional Advent Wreath candle themes: Patriarchs, Prophets, John the Baptist and Mary.  Some Sundays, like this one, we are using some small changes in the readings assigned. So, pay attention to the readings linked on the CHIMES to be sure you have prepared. This Sunday, Ashley will be preaching on the theme of Abraham and Sarah waiting for God's Promises.

ENJOY and GIVE THANKS to GOD for your Thanksgiving festival. I pray a safe and blessed time for each and every one of you. See you soon!

Peace and blessings,

What's Happening Tonight ...

2016 Vestry Nominations
Nominations for vestry are due in December.
Vestry members are leaders who, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, direct the business, mission, and ministry of the parish. Vestry members need to be "members in good standing" which means active communicants, confirmed or received, and regular supporters of the parish's ministry & mission. If you are interested or wish to know more, ask Fr. Bob or any vestry member. Submit by email or written note your desire to be nominated and we will let you know what is helpful for background information.
