Staff Update

Jim Stahl is the new case manager at Twin Oaks. He guides residents on their path toward stable housing. Jim is also a Green Bay Packers fan and is inspired by this Vince Lombardi quote:

"It is time for us all to stand and cheer for the doer, the achiever - the one who recognizes the challenges and does something about it."

Program Impact: Teresa's story
Meet Teresa. She's a mother, a grandmother, a wife, and a long-time Walworth County resident. She's quick to tell you that her family comes first.

So when her daughter called her, in the midst of a life-threatening crisis, Teresa and her husband packed up some belongings, put the rest of their things in storage, and headed to Illinois to care for their daughter and grandchildren.

This decision might have saved their daughter, but it ultimately cost them their home. Teresa's husband worked on a seasonal road crew, and his boss let them stay in his camper once they returned, but the bitter winter (the camper was without heat) forced them to seek out other options. That's how they arrived at Twin Oaks Shelter for the Homeless, in Darien.

"They make you feel as if it is your home," Teresa says. "The management is wonderful. I've made lifelong friends here." Two years later, Teresa is back at Twin Oaks-as a volunteer. Often her granddaughter tags along to help.

Thanks, Keefe Real Estate!

Support from Keefe Kares provides warmth to our residents during snowy winter nights.
