Meet Kidney Walk Ambassador
Barb Owens

Barb, Guelph Kidney Walk
I think The Kidney Foundation has made great strides in getting the word out there for the need for organ donation but there is so much more that can be done.  I have such great support from my family, friends, the health community and The Kidney Foundation.  I, along with family and friends, take part in the annual Kidney Walk.  This wonderful event not only allows me an avenue to get the word out there regarding the impact of kidney disease, but it is also a chance to meet new people and enjoy a lovely walk with those dear to me.

Question of the month:

Are you a kidney patient? Help us understand how you record your health history. Do you keep a health journal or diary or do you have a unique way of keeping track? Let us know at www.kidney.ca/kidneylivingviews.
waterside-grilling.jpg Barbeque season is upon us, but often times premade seasonings and sauces have a high salt content, so making your own is a healthy alternative with an opportunity to try out new flavours. Before trying out these recipes keep in mind that BBQ sauces may not be appropriate for those on a low potassium diet, so check with your renal dietician before trying to make your own.
Is it possible to have another?
Most patients will have only one transplant during their lifetime. We all hope that this one transplant is all that the person will need, and that it will work very well for as long as possible. In fact, many patients live long, normal lives after their transplant and will never need another one. However, the transplant sometimes fails and the patient then needs to go back on dialysis. The question then arises: can one have another transplant? Having a second, or even a third or fourth kidney transplant is actually not that uncommon. Even if the first transplant did not work very well, a subsequent transplant might in fact work extremely well. However, there are some things to be aware of, when thinking about getting another transplant.
