Families Are Strong Series - Tour of Casa De Angelae
On Monday October 26th ten families came out to learn about an innovative housing model.   Casa De Angelae, an incorporated entity under the umbrella of Community Living Peterborough, was started by four families who shared "a vision of transitioning their daughters out of their family homes before age or ill health prevented them from providing the necessary support" their daughters needed.  Since then their vision, through hard work and perseverance, has come to fruition and their four daughters have a home of their own.

Never too late or early to plan for housing the tour hosted parents with children aged 14 years old to 40 years old.   The evening started with a tour of this beautiful home, followed by an information session learning about how the home operates, financial costs and what it took to create their vision.

The evening gave everyone a glimpse into planning for the future, as well as a chance to connect with other parents seeking the same thing.  Overall, parents left inspired with lots to think about!

One parent came all the way from Toronto and sent an email following the tour to say:
"Thank you so much for allowing us to tour Casa De Angelae last night.  It is indeed the "House of Angels".  This is exactly what I envision for my son. Your ten year plan has paid dividends.  The girls seem so happy and compatible and the environment can only foster positive vibes for the future.....We have friends that have purchased a home in Toronto and I can't wait to share the information provided with them."

The next Families are Strong event is on November 18th - 6:30 to 8:00pm -- at the Peterborough Lion's Community Centre.  Hear from more experienced parents who have created alternative housing for their adult children.   Please RSVP.  Contact: Krista Brailey kbrailey@communitylivingpeterborough.ca or 705-743-2412 x547
