Ben's Buzz:

Mid-term Reports will be sent home on Thursday afternoon with all students in grades 5-8. Mid-terms provide an early measure of feedback on your child's progress so far this trimester. These reports also give students the opportunity to make any necessary adjustments to ensure success during the remainder of the trimester. Should you have any thoughts, concerns or feedback upon receipt of the mid-term reports, please email teacher to set up an appointment.
Our annual Parent Teacher Conferences will take place in late November at the conclusion of our first trimester. Conference signups will take place in early November and are coordinated through an online software service called Teeso. Stay tuned for further details and instructions.

BFCCPS Family Directory:

Each year, BFCCPS creates and distributes a Family Directory to each family. This directory includes each student's name, their parents names, their home address, their home telephone number, and this year we will be including a primary email address.
Please complete
this form
only if you would either not like to be included in the family directory, OR do not want a specific piece(s) of information included. For example: If you did not want your home address included in the directory, you would fill out this form, and check off Home Address. Then, in the directory, for each of your children, we would not include their home address.
To opt-out, please complete this form no later than Sunday, October 18, 2015.

Capstone Information Evening for 7th grade parents
October 22nd 7pm-

Mr. Heater and Mr. Perna will be presenting an overview of the Capstone process, sharing exemplars of past projects, and answering any questions you may have.

Parent Community Organization and
Parent Advisory Council will each hold meetings this month. You will find more details just below.
Aakriti R. will be raising money for Clean Water in Kenya and will be holding a Movie Night on Friday, October 16th. Come see Finding Nemo from 5:30 to 7 pm. Concessions and a raffle to benefit Josh A's Capstone will also be available. We hope to see you there!
Both Kindergarten classes will be performing in their first Academic Assembly on Oct 23 at 10:20 Leaves in the Forest of Virtue will be presented to students as well. Parents of students receiving leaves have been notified.
 First Annual BFCCPS Pumpkin Lighting - Come One, come All! Bring your carved pumpkin to school on Friday October 30 and drop it off in the courtyard. At 6:00 PM come back and see all the pumpkins aglow! The perfect way to celebrate Halloween Weekend! Socialize with friends, parents and siblings.

Parent Advisory Council:

The first Parent Advisory Council Meeting of the year will be held on October 15th from 7:00pm - 8:30pm. We hope you can join us, more details about the evening are available on this flyer. Babysitting will be available for children aged 5 and up in the Art Room for $10 per family, the proceeds benefit the upcoming 7th Grade trip to Quebec.

PCO Fall Photo Day will be held on October 27th, you can find the specific times that your students will visit the event

PCO will need parent volunteers during the day please visit the
Helper Signup Form if you can help out.
Banking will run every Thursday in the library so don't forget to send your children in with their deposits. We are currently looking for volunteers to help with banking. If you are able to help please contact Heidi Winiker
The next PCO sponsored Arts Enrichment Assembly is scheduled for Friday, October 16, Cashore Marionettes ~ Simple Gifts. Grades 5-8 will see the 9:10 performance and grades K-4 will see the 10:20 performance.. ALL are encouraged and welcome to attend the performances in the auditorium. For more info please see:

Capstone Corner:

Several of our 8th Grade students are holding fundraising drives and raffles over the next few weeks. We hope that you'll take a moment to review the upcoming projects and perhaps select a few that resonate with your family.

- A jar will be filled with shells and displayed in the office from October 5 through October 23rd for Max O's capstone project to save the Coral Reefs. For 50 cents you can make a guess as to how may there are and enter to win a great reef gift basket.
- Shoyaib S. is having a drive to collect non-perishable food and gently used/new clothing for the Medway House. Donation bins will be available beginning on October 5th. Learn more about the needed items on this flyer.
- Leanne J. will hold an eyeglasses drive to benefit the Bellingham Lions Club from October 13 through October 23rd.

6:30 to 8:00 pm and sign up for your own library card. Did you know with your library card you have access to a world of digital books, magazines, movies, and sample entrance exams for private High Schools? Please
visit the Franklin Public Library on October 22, for some pizza and cake and come see a demonstration on how to explore your own personal digital world with your library card! I have mine do you?

- Madelyn W. will be holding a donation drive for new/used softball equipment for her Capstone project. Donations of gloves, facemasks, softballs and helmets are welcome. The donation bins will be located in Mr. Callahan's room from October 19th through October 23rd.

Alana P. will be hosting a
Talent Show for fifth through eighth grade on October 23rd. The grand prize will be a 200 dollar scholarship to the Franklin School of Performing Arts. Please help by signing up to participate in the talent show in the front office or come see the show with your whole family for 5 dollars. Thank you so much in advance.
- Bridget J. will be holding an electronic recycling day on October 24th from 8 am to 1pm at 600 Central Street in Holliston. She will use her proceeds to create care packages for soldiers. You can
- Justin F. will be hosting a Linen Drive to benefit My Brother's Keeper. This organization helps people in poverty by collecting furniture, food and other home goods. He is collecting linens in a purple bin next to the trophy case in the modular. You will find a purple bin next to the trophy case between 10/26 and 10/30.
- Join John D. at the Medway Cafe, in support of the Medway Village Church Food Pantry for a dine out event on Monday & Tuesday, October 26 & 27, 2015 for either Lunch or Dinner, valid for both dine in, or take out. You must print and present this certificate at the time of payment to have 10% of your check's value, excluding tax and tip, donated to the Medway Village Church Food Pantry. A bin for donations will also be available at the event, please see this post on the Capstone Corner blog for a list of needed items.

The nurses will be conducting state mandated health screening in the upcoming weeks. Students in grades 1 - 5 and 7 will be screened for vision, grades 1 - 3 and 7 will be screened for hearing, and grades 1, 4, and 7 will be checked for height and weight. If we have any concerns about your child's hearing or vision we will send a letter home to you. We will not send letters home about height or weight. We are available as always if you have any questions or concerns,

Mrs. Auerr and Mrs. Williams are excited to welcome Liz McDonnell, mother of Dandi McDonnell (grade 8), to the Health Office! Mrs. McDonnell is a Registered Nurse, and she is working on completing her Bachelor's of Science in Nursing degree at Regis College. She plans to complete her community health nursing clinical requirement here with us at B.F.C.C.P.S. In order to do so, Liz will be working in the Health Office, along-side Mrs. Auerr and/or Mrs. Williams, on many Mondays and Tuesdays between now and early December.

KidMail:

KidMail and the class email distribution list should
only be used for school related communication.
KidMail should only be used for letters, paperwork and envelopes, no large packages, bulky objects etc.
The school directory will soon be available so that you can send invitations and personal correspondence by US Mail. In the interim, we can assist with the distribution of birthday invitations by KidMail, but only if all of the students in the class have been invited. This spares hurt feelings for any students who had not been invited. Thank you for your understanding.

Visitors:
All visitors to the school are required to sign in at the Front Office and wear a Visitor's badge. Visitors must be escorted at all times. Thank you for your help with this!
Parking & Parking Lot Safety:
Parking is not allowed in marked reserved spots near the schools main entrance. These spots are reserved for the CCD program staff.
Please adhere to the posted arrival and dismissal procedures which are posted here our website.
 For the safety of all students, we ask that all parents practice distraction free driving at all times while on the premises. Therefore, if you must place a phone call while on the property, we ask that you use hands free devices at all times.

To submit events for the School Calendar or to place building space requests please fill out a Blue Sheet in the front office and submit to the Assistant Head of School, Joe Perna.
To submit content to the Buzz for publication, please email Joanne Basile with your 2-3 sentence blurb by no later than Monday at noon for publication in that Wednesday's issue.
