I'always looking for new ways that I can be more productive in God's kingdom.
I n my library, reside all kinds of books-- from self-help to management; and all of them promise the prize of a greater effectiveness.
But if I look closer at the text of
Nehemiah's own business journal from this past week in chapter ten, I can extract
3 solid take-aways that can help me. Pencils ready!
  1. Read more not less. Read widely, read deeply, and read often. My reading alternates between the biblical and the secular, the expositional to the historical. It gives me something to say in the marketplace and the link to understand God's work in His world.
  2. Serve! Care about the stuff that really matters. In my case, its The Lord, my family, and my ministry. And ministry for us, takes the shape of our ministry in the local church. The church is God's idea, not mine, so His goal for us in involvement. Serve!
  3. Develop good habits and lose the bad ones! We might be surprised just how effective we could be if we added a good habit, dropped a destructive habit, or modified an ineffective habit.
Pencils down... Time to get started.

Where did you gain the valuable knowledge and insight from the Scriptures? Some churches call the organized biblical instruction catechism, but whatever you call it,  its likely that the truth learned in those early years from godly AWANA leaders has benefited your adult life. Think about it.
