WELCOME TO CITY SPRINGS- CITY UNVEILS DISTRICT'S NAME!
Just as this year's Sandy Springs Festival was drawing to a close, the community gathered with city leaders to unveil City Springs, the new name and look to define the city's downtown development project and district. The branding is pulled from the city's deep connection to the springs from which the city is named. City Springs, when completed, will become everyone's neighborhood.
Here's a
video re-cap of the branding event

MARSH CREEK UPDATE
Construction has begun on the Marsh Creek Headquarters Bio-retention facility. The project is anticipated to reduce flooding in the neighborhoods surrounding the immediate headwater area by reducing storm flow between 50 and 90 percent. It is also expected to improve water quality by treating stormwater runoff, reducing pollutants by 20 percent, before it flows into Marsh Creek, the tributary leading into the Chattahoochee River.
The design incorporates hardscape and softscape features, creating an area that will be an attractive greenspace. It will also include a permanent wet pond with a fountain, walking trails, extensive landscaping, benches, educational signage to explain the stormwater treatment process, as well as a bio-retention area with specially selected plant species to remove pollutants from stormwater runoff.
For more information about the project, the City has created a project page on its website:

HELP US PLAN THE NEXT 10 YEARS
As Sandy Springs draws closer to celebrating its tenth anniversary, planning is underway to shape the city's next ten years.
www.thenext10.org was launched in September devoted to the planning effort. The website is home to information about building. The city's comprehensive land use plan, a tool used by staff and city leaders in making decisions about development within a community. The website also hosts poll questions and feedback areas, so the community is able to participate in the dialogue. Multiple meetings and workshops are in the works as part of the planning process.
www.thenext10.org will have all of the meeting details, and residents are encouraged to check the site often. The Next Ten team also has launched a Twitter page
@PlantheNext10.

AVOIDING DEER-CAR COLLISIONS
Fall is in the air, and according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division, it's a time when we're most likely to run into deer - quite literally.
Deer mating season occurs between October and early December. This activity greatly contributes to an increase in movement of deer, including trips across our roadways. Also, rush hour for most commuters tends to fall during the same hours in which white-tailed deer are most active - at dawn and dusk. Please watch the road carefully and follow these tips to help avoid potential collisions:
- Mating Season- Deer mating season occurs between October and early December. This greatly contributes to the increased movement of deer, bringing them across roadways.
- Increased human population and rural development- As the human population continues to grow and expand into traditionally rural areas, deer lose their natural food source and consequently move into new areas in search of food and water.
- Time Changes- Rush hour for most commuters tends to fall during the same hours in which white-tailed deer are most active - at dawn and dusk.
Follow these tips to help avoid potential collisions:
- Unpredictable: A deer calmly standing on the side of a road may bolt into or across the road rather than away from it when startled by a vehicle.
- One Deer Usually Means More: Deer generally travel in groups, so if one crosses, be prepared that others may follow.
- Time of Day: As deer are most active at dawn and dusk, they typically are seen roadside during the early morning and late evening - the same times most people are commuting to and from work.
- Minimize Damage: If it is too late to avoid a collision, drivers are advised to slow down as much as possible to minimize damage - resist the urge to swerve to avoid the deer, this may cause further damage, sending drivers off the road or causing a collision with another vehicle. If an accident occurs, alert the police as soon as possible.
