Tis the Season for Caring and Sharing

New River CTC held "Tis the Season for Caring and Sharing" potluck luncheons on each campus during the month of December. The events were well attended and the food was scrumptious!! In addition to the luncheons, each campus collected food donations for families in our communities. Thank you to all who participated!

Following is a list of the organizations the New River CTC Food Drive is supporting this holiday season:

Advanced Technology Center - Ghent Volunteer Fire Department

Greenbrier Valley Campus - Ronceverte Food Pantry

Mercer County Campus - Tender Mercies Ministries

Nicholas County Campus - Nicholas County JROTC Wilderness Battalion Canned Food Drive

Raleigh County Campus - Salvation Army

Kid's Kollege

The Nicholas County Campus held it's Kid's Kollege on November 24-26. This year's theme was Native American Traditions. The children were treated to guest speakers and made several craft projects including their own New River Hawk totem -- to protect them and the school.

Melrose Elementary Students Assist Mercer County Campus of

New River CTC with Holiday Decorations

On Dec 1, the Mercer County Campus hosted students from Melrose Elementary School's fifth grade class to help with the campus' holiday decorations. The students painted three windows with holiday scenes just in time for Princeton's Christmas Parade.

The invitation was sent to all of the Mercer County Elementary schools to participate in contest. As the winning school, Melrose Elementary received a basket of art supplies for their school. New River CTC plans to hold this contest every year.

Welcome to New River!

Kenny Smith has joined the staff of New River as an administrative secretary senior for the Raleigh County Campus in Beckley. He will provide primary administrative support for the regional director of operations and will work directly with students, faculty, staff and administrators.

Smith comes to New River CTC from Mountain State University in Beckley, where he served in different capacities in the Finance, Office of Human Resources, and the bookstore areas. He also worked for Valley College as a technology specialist/staff assistant and the bookstore coordinator/staff assistant/placement corrdinator. He is the pastor of the First Baptist Church of Scarbro.

Farewell

Steve Wise, Dean for Workforce, Technical and Community Education, resigned his position effective December 12, 2014. In addition to Dean, Dr. Wise served New River CTC as the Mercer County Campus Dean. He has been a friend and mentor to many students and colleagues and we wish him well in his future endeavors.

Happy Retirement!

Drema Amick, Administrative Associate on the Nicholas County Campus, is retiring effective December 31, 2104. She has served New River CTC as one of the original employees transferring from Glenville State College. She has been a friend, a confidant and an advocate for many students over the years, as she diligently served the staff, faculty and administration at the NCC. She will be sorely missed! We wish Drema a very happy retirement!

And We Have a Winner...

Thank you to everyone that participated in the "Got Classes" campaign! We had some wonderful pictures submitted from each campus. We look forward to next semester's campaign, as we continue to encourage our students to register for summer 2015.

The winner of the gas card is Lisa Matherly! Congratulations Lisa!

Thanks again to all who participated!
