President's Column

Hello Kiwanians & Past Guests,

Last week we enjoyed a presentation from Major Greg Thompson, Division Commander of the Salvation Army. You think you know everything there is to know about an organization you've heard about all your life. But, he gave us a visual presentation showing the growth of this organization, here and around the world. Their vision for the Omaha campus is underway. It's exciting that we can be a part of an organization like this, who helps so many people. Our Red Kettle Bell Ringing event for the Salvation Army is Saturday, December 5. It's an eye-opener. If you've not rung the bell yet, sign up. Email John Wehrle at [email protected].  It will humble you to be asking for donations for this organization. But, truly, your requests are for local people in need. This season, do something like this, for just an hour. It will warm your heart and gratitude will rise within you.

Thank you for attending our meetings. They are the best. I love my club!

Thank you,

Lisa

LAST MEETING
Last Friday we were honored to welcome Major Greg Thompson, Division Commander of the Salvation Army. Mr. Thompson gave us a history of the beginnings of the Salvation Army as it is today and shared with us the outreach that the Salvation has locally as well as globally. Every donation made in the Red Kettles in the Omaha area stays in our community for service and assistance to the needy "...in the name of Jesus Christ without discrimination". Major Thompson shared with us about the new Burrows Center, which opened at 61st and Radial last September. He also shared with us the exciting plans for the new Renaissance Village at 36th and Cumming, which will transform that campus and augment their presence and services there.

YCPO Spotlight

We were also privileged last Friday to welcome Suzanne Hinman, President of the Assistance League of Omaha, for a 5 minute "Spotlight" regarding her organization and the 2015 YCPO grant they received to go towards Operation School Bell. Operation School Bell this year provided over 4,000 children in the Omaha area with much needed winter clothing and shoes, as well as a book of their choice.
