Dear Friend,
As the year closes, we want to take time to thank you for supporting our mission. The time you invest learning about what it takes to properly steward clean water in Tennessee helps the river beyond measure.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve the community through protection, recreation, and education. We believe 2015 will bring important changes towards a healthier Harpeth River.
Please remember us in your end of year giving as every drop in the bucket makes a difference.
May your holidays be joyful!

Guider Shares His "View From A Small Boat" at Cumberland Transit Last Thursday

" The seven days spent paddling the Harpeth were the most spiritual," John Guider says as he recounts the 6,000 mile journey.
HRWA is proud to be friends with John Guider through the years, watching his passion and support of our mission grow with each new adventure he beholds. While he only captured picturesque views of the waterways he traveled, "The River Inside" narrates the mental and physical hardships he's faced. Through these difficulties he's not alone, every day of his journey he experienced a new wildlife encounter and another act of kindness from new friends along the way. His calm and determined demeanor is a true inspiration to us all for any journey we travel.

"In August 2003, John Guider walked out the back door of his home in Franklin, TN and placed a canoe in the creek behind his house. Three months later, he had paddled all the way to New Orleans. Along the way, Guider kept a detailed journal and took hundreds of remarkable photographs, documenting his amazing journey that led him down five rivers, including the Mighty Mississippi. A traveling exhibition of his photography and this companion coffee table book chronicle this life changing experience and bring this adventure to thousands of Arm-Chair Adventurers across America." BIG Thanks to our Volunteers |
Whether you were planting trees, pulling tires out of the mud in the river, stuffing envelopes, or helping to coordinate logistics at the River Swing, we could not have accomplished so much this year without you. Over the course of the year, there were more than 350 volunteers that gave over 1,000 hours of their time to help protect the Harpeth River!
Without your help, we couldn't have accomplished the following:
- Over 2,500 trees planted
- Over 10,000 pounds of garbage removed from the Harpeth
- Collected water quality samples at various sections of the river
Additional thanks to the following groups that played a large part in accomplishing the goals above:
Eagle Scout Troop 87, Ensworth High School students, Turner Construction Company, Battle Ground Academy students and teachers, Congregation Micah, Franklin Road Academy, Wyman Center, Circle K International, Bear Grass Youth Group, Whole Foods of Franklin, Nissan, Fifty Forward, and HCA Healthcare
If you're interested in volunteering in any capacity this coming year, please let us know by emailing at [email protected] or by calling us at 615-790-9767.
Many thanks!

Sincerely,
Your Fellow Adventurers at
