In 2013, the CDC Study of Health Risk Behaviors showed that 17% of students in grades 9-12 have contemplated suicide, 22% rode with a driver who had been drinking, 26% used tobacco before age 12, and 41% of sexually active students didn't use protection.

Studies have shown that peer mentoring can decrease the likelihood of teens initiating risky behaviors, such as drug and alcohol abuse. The Focus Program is an Alabama school-based program promoting student-led prevention of adolescent risk behaviors. They have a great upcoming leadership training  opportunity where you can help make a difference.

Parents, teens and school administrators are all invited to attend this one day youth conference that provides the opportunity to come together as a community to network, learn about prevention, and join the challenge to make a difference.
