Letter from the President: Resolve to Get Connected in 2015

Happy New Year! Can you believe we are 15 years into a new century?

I'm getting inspired at the Tropical Plant Industry Exhibition (TPIE) in Florida, one of our hottest trade shows and conferences, literally. This group knows its audience well. Who wouldn't jump at the chance in most of the U.S. to attend a trade show located in sunny south Florida in January? Back home most of them would be shoveling snow and only dreaming of the warm weather ahead...

Employee Spotlight: Alissa Matlack

GEP's newest employee Alissa Matlack grew up in Wisconsin and graduated from the University at Madison with a degree in landscape architecture. She has lived in San Diego for five years and enjoys volunteering for community gardens as well as rescuing honey bees.

Alissa joined the Good Earth Plants family three months ago and we are so pleased to add her 10 years of experience to our team.

Alissa says, " I love that Good Earth Plants is a local, homegrown business that is creative and innovative. We do so much more than just put plants in pots, although we love doing that too. It is really great to be reunited with many talented people I have worked with in the past, such as Kim Covey and Celso Gomez."

We are so pleased to have you on board, Alissa.

Good Earth Plant Company is always so happy to receive thanks from our community.

Judy from ArtReach San Diego expressed her appreciation to Operations Manager Debbie Hopkins for supporting her organization.

"Dear Debbie,
Thank you so much for your donation to Party Arty, for ArtReach. We raised over $13,000 for our free workshop program. We will use the funds to work with thousands of students in under served schools that would otherwise have no opportunity to practice creative problem solving and making original art.

With great respect,
Judy"

Living Walls Abroad: Shanghai, China
GEP employee Katelyn Hutchings recently returned from Shanghai, China to study international entrepreneurship and shares her experiences.

"Shanghai is an amazingly huge city with a even bigger population, and to my surprise, a large amount of beautiful landscaping including quite a few living walls.

"The pollution in the city is substantial, but China is making an obvious effort to clean up the air using plants.

"I loved seeing so much greenery in such a metropolitan city. I saw living walls inside businesses and outside in the most popular areas in Shanghai. My personal favorite is the living wall that stretches down the world famous Bund walkway. You can stand on the sidewalk and see a beautiful living wall, the Po River, and the amazing skyline of Shanghai," says Katelyn.

We can't wait to see what China accomplishes with sustainability and living art in the future.
